NBA.com fans have voted Sam Cassell as the Nikebasketball.com Baller of the Week for the week ending Jan. 18. Link
Finally, he has been nominated for that for like 3 weeks straight and nobody would vote for him. Glad he is finally getting the respect from the fans.
Nobody still recognizes just how great he is, they probably think he's no fun to watch. That he either doesn't try or is no good, he definitely always proves them wrong. Remember the Lakers game? The hop over player steal. That was minty classic.

Its all good Like sam said he doesnt play for fan recogition, he plays for W's. I been a die hard fan of Sam Iam since 1992 when he was at FSU, dropping like 23ppg on every Acc team you can name. I followed Sam from every team he played in the NBA from the Rockets, to the Suns, to the Mavs, to the Nets, To the Bucks & now with the t-wolves. I never ever routed for a single player in the league other than Sam Cassell. I been a nets fan since the early 90's when they had Derrick Coleman, Kenny Anderson, & Drazen, the Hammer. but still Sam was my favorite player. So Sam doesnt need to be the most popular player in the league. He can leave that for the likes of Kobe, Mcgrady, & so on. but when he retires and they look back on his carreer. They look back at the #ers he has put up since his days as a Nets. They will have no choice but to admit that for a 97-to current he has been one of the best point guards in the NBA, all-star or not. And when it all comes down to it thats all you really want as a player. You want to be mentioned amongest the best at your position during the era, you played ball in. Its simply called RESPECT. So Sam will never be popular with the fans but he will always be respected by his peers & true fans of the game.
Henacy, we must be close somewhere... I routed for Sam a little bit later than you, it began in the play offs in his rookie year with the Rockets. I never saw a rookie taking over a finals game like he did that year. Never before, and never since. Since that they, I followed Sam everywhere. What you forgot to mention: the lack of respect and All-Star status -> well Sam has 2 rings, not that many so-called All-Stars can say that. And it wasn't that he sat on the bandwagon the get them, he contributed big time. I always thought that I'm the only one admiring Sam since his first days in the NBA...good to now there somebody else somewhere.
Henacy, you might want to check out the new SI magazine, its got a great piece on Sam Cassell in there. Very good read.
Check out NBA.com's '04 Midseason Tracking Poll One question asks who is the best Point Guard in the NBA Year to Date. Sam is leading by quite a bit --- It also shows that Sam is voted as the best acquisition of the year Other notes: MVP has KG in 1st (Duncan in 4th) Best Game of the year is the Wolves OT victory over the Kings
Alright, let's get over this talk about how "he's so underrated" and "finally he's getting some respect" because now he is not only getting some respect, it seems he's getting respect every half-hour on ESPN to the point where they are starting to overrate his success. That's never a good thing. He'll be an All-Star this season and hopefully all this underrated talk will stop, because from what I've seen he's one of the most respected players in the league. All of you guys respect him right? Anyway, I respect him too (ignore my signature), and his streak of twenty point games was amazing.
