<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Now that Tracy McGrady is back at the familiar place where he always is in early May -- out of the playoffs -- Orlando Magic fans should take this time to thank General Manager John Weisbrod for sparing them an offseason filled with misery and malaise. Yes, thank him. Can you imagine where this franchise would be right now if Weisbrod hadn't traded Me-Mac after last season? The Magic would be out of the playoffs, Grant Hill would have ended a sixth straight season out with an injury and, worst of all, McGrady would be walking out of here as a free agent with the Magic receiving no compensation for him. The Magic may not have received equal value for a player of McGrady's status, but at least they got something decent. Steve Francis may be erratic, but he has value. He's a borderline all-star who plays hard, plays hurt and doesn't quit on his team a la Me-Mac. And, please, all you Me-Mac apologists, don't try to make the argument that a disgruntled McGrady could have been appeased if he'd only been allowed to stay this season and the Magic had made a run in the playoffs. Anybody who would gamble the long-term future of the franchise on a McGrady-led team making a playoff run probably also would wager his kid's college fund on UCF going to the Rose Bowl. In the biggest moments, Me-Mac comes up small. Tiger wears red on Sunday. If Me-Mac were a golfer, he'd wear yellow. How else do you explain his new team, the Houston Rockets, going on the road and taking a 2-0 lead against the Dallas Mavericks in their first-round series, then not only blowing the lead, but losing in Game 7 by, um, 40 POINTS!</div> Source Here come the haters.
I didn't even bother reading the article, because anyone who watched the rockets this season or against the mavericks should know TMac gave it his all and is a very unselfish player. EDIT: Okay I ended up reading the article.......how can this guy say TMac didn't elevate his game or his teammates game to another level??????.....this guy is just a bitter Orlando fan who knows Houston will always be superior to the Tragic. EDIT: I'm about to send this idiot an email......I suggest everyone else do it also. Here's what I sent to this jerk: I was just reading your article on how you said Tmac didn't show up in the playoffs and how he doesn't make people around him better. First off if you watched any of the Dallas series then you would know that TMac did in fact raise his level of play and if you watched the series or any of the season, then you would know how great TMac's all around game was. The problem he had in Orlando was that his team around him was awful. I can't count how many times Tmac's dribble penetration created open looks for the rockets 3 pt. shooters and I can't count how many times he dished it off to Yao in the low post for a dunk or an easy basket and I can't count how many times he stepped up to the task of defending Dirk Nowitzki and basically made him a non factor throughout the series. You talk about selfish players, then why don't you look any further than Steve Francis who missed a game last year for the freagin superbowl. I believe that article you wrote was one of the most biased things that I've read in a while. I would expect more from a professional journalist.
This is what I sent him earlier.... All I can say is 'wow'. I don't think I've ever known a sports columnist to be so wrong. Surely your article about T-MAC is nothing more than a final insolent dig filled with scorn towards a great player who will never be a part of pathetic Magic organization. Do you honestly think that McGrady will never get out of the first round? Of course he will. T-Mac and Yao will be one of the most dominant forces in the NBA for the next decade. McGrady is not a loser, and he certainly is not a quitter in the 'I don't show up for practice after I party cuz I'm Stevie Franchise' mold. He lumped the Rockets on his back all season and turned an underachieving squad into a team that pushed a western powerhouse with the deepest bench in the league to the limit. The Rockets, save for McGrady and Yao, are old, slow, and not even very talented. The Mavericks, however, are young, strong, fast, and highly skilled. It is a shame that the Rockets blew an advantage, but over the course of a well played series, anybody with a basketball IQ knows that is was a fair and likely result. Buddy, I'm sure it is painful to see McGrady playing with such heart and desire in Rockets Red - just as painful as it is to see Francis dribble and dribble and dribble your hopes of glory into the lottery. Sure Francis plays hard, but he is not even in the same stratosphere as the sublime McGrady, and thats gotta hurt. I guess it makes you feel better to call Tracy Me-Mac, and hopefully consoles your readers a little to take cowardly jibes at him. But basically all you are doing is crying, and man, I'd be crying too if my GM ran off one of the greatest players the NBA is likely to ever see for the infinitely juvenile Steve-O. I bet you guys felt so smug the first few weeks of the season, felt so validated in your choices. Then everything went wrong and McGrady and the Rockets beat the Magic twice in 4 days. Then your collective eyes started swelling up seeing McGrady performing miracles all year and into the playoffs. Playing defense, getting his suporting cast the ball, completely outplaying Nowitzki etc... And now, with years of success iminent in Houston, you just couldn't take it anymore. Tears start flowing. But, next time you want to cry like a little girl, try not to do it in your newspaper. H-Town....Out
BritKid420, that was awesome! Tracy McGrady was also the most efficient player in the NBA per 48 minutes this season. TMac also stepped up in the playoffs to guard the Mavs best player, Dirk Nowitzki. Despite the Rockets blowing a 2-0 lead, they still exceeded any expectations by making it to the playoffs as a 5th seed. In the end, the Mavs' bench simply outplayed the Rockets bench like EVERYONE expected.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">BritKid420, that was awesome!</div> Yes it was.
He has a point that the fans should have been happy. I doubt mcgrady would want to extend a contract with the magic with guys like wiesbrod. The fact that tmac sucks and all. They all have realized that tmac is title bound now with this rocket team and they just want to enjoy the 1-2 years they have before he starts wearing those championship rings.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Magic would be out of the playoffs, Grant Hill would have ended a sixth straight season out with an injury</div> Somethings never change no matter who you put on the team....LOL
Yea I read this earlire and was surprised how much Orlando still hates on T-Mac. It's sad when sports writers start getting into it.
Funny how these "Me-Mack" articles only seemed to surface in Orlando when the Rockets were struggling early in the season and now when the Rockets have been eliminated from the playoffs. I don't care if Orlando is happy to be rid of T-mac. I wish them the best of luck with their new team. I do notice that Weisbrot hasn't made many friends with his current players, so maybe the tension between him and McGrady wasn't all Tracy's fault. All I know is I saw a player who's capable of being the best player in the league since Michael Jordan in the first round series. And I didn't hear one word of criticism towards teammates from McGrady after a dissapointing game 7 where the Rockets got virtually nothing from the role players. He showed he's capable of being a great leader throughout the series. In the end, the Mavs were the better team but there was no doubt who the best player in that series was.
This guy forgot to mention that the Rockets made the playoffs while the Magic are eagerly hoping for a lucky ping pong ball to come up with their logo on it. T-Mac played hurt, he played unselfishly and he played well. There are obvious weaknesses in the 04-05 Rockets which were exposed in that game 7, none of them being T-Mac's fault. The Rockets didn't have a true PF to match up with Dirk and they had to play with a smaller (and slower) lineup than the Mavs. You can't really blame T-Mac for his teammates (other than Yao) shooting something like 20% from the floor. How many here can honestly say they wouldn't "dog it" even a little bit when they don't like their boss (Weisbrod) and there's no hope for making the playoffs, and there's little help around you to turn things around?
That writer is an idiot. Weisbrod is an idiot. I feel for magic fans though, their GM always seems to blow it. I still like Steve Francis, but I doubt he will be in Orlando for very long. Here's an article about the many fallacies of the Magic organization to counter that ridiculous piece of trash.
Some Orlando people are trying their hardest to not believe that their GM is so incompetent that he pulled off two of the most lobsided trades in NBA history (Tmac for Francis, and Gooden, Verajao, and Scott Hunter for Tony Battie) I was a Tmac hater this year because of his comments, but the guy is obviously a superstar who can't be blamed for what happened.

Last year McGrady averaged 28 PPG, 6 RPG, 5.5 APG. Now even if McGrady didnt try last year, those are still very good numbers. If McGrady put up those type of Numbers and still couldnt make the playoffs. Then obviously he had a good reason to "Quit" on his team because it's not his fault they cant make the playoffs. The Magic got a very good player in Stevie Franchise but if they dont make him happy he could be gone next year. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Anybody who would gamble the long-term future of the franchise on a McGrady-led team making a playoff run probably also would wager his kid's college fund on UCF going to the Rose Bowl.</div>Well obviously the Rockets would gamble on a tmac led team. And it seems to be working very well. The Rockets GOT to the playoffs and had a very competitive 7-game series. And why does he insult a university from his own state? Not only Yao but when he penatrated he gave the rest of the Rockets open shots aswell. The Mavs had to respect T-Mac and that opened it up for everyone else. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If he were truly great, he wouldn't have an 0-5 playoff record.</div>If im not mistaken other players like Kevin Garnett and MICHEAL JORDAN also had playoffs trouble early in their careers. I hate Orlando...I didnt even bother reading the article, all they'll do is bash McGrady to no end and not admit his growth and unselfishness as a basketball player...John Weisbrod has already embarrassed the Magic organization enough, they dont need their media people to do so as well...
They couldn't win one game against us in the 95 finals. They couldn't keep the man who has become the most dominant player of his generation. They also couldn't keep the man who WILL lead the Rockets to their next championship. Shaq, McGrady, and zero championships. That's a screwed up franchise.
I have a soft spot for the Magic. Maybe because I still like Francis, and also because Grant Hill was my favourite player before he ounfd a new home on the injury list. That being said, Magic management is trash. As for the article, well I don't need to comment. First of all, everything's been said. Second of all, nothing needs to be said in the first place because any NBA fan who watches NBA games can clearly see who benefited from the TMac/Franchise trade.
Hey BritKid420 and The Dream, can you post up what the guy says in response to your emails? Man, what a bitter magic fan, I really want to see what he has to say for his stupid column.
Hahaha, lets not go there. Magic aren't THAT bad. They've done better than last year, so technically they benefitted from the trade, but not as well as us. Plus they had they're Shaq/Penny glory days, so they're not all THAT bad. Like I said, I have a soft spot for the team.
Kinda going off topic here, but IMO the move that ended the Magic's season was the Mobley trade. Christie just couldn't provide the offense that Cuttino was able to and the trade eventually caused Stevie to be mad at the whole franchise, which led to the firing of Johnny Davis, when then slammed the door shut on the Magic. I do have high hopes for them next year though, if Howard can develop into a 18/12 monster and Francis can re-dedicate himself. That is, though, if he doesn't get traded this summer.
