Sampdoria In Crisis?

Sampdoria’s disappointing start to the season continued as Siena and the Genoa-based side played out a 0-0 scoreline. Samp were the away team, but neither side looked likely to get on the score sheet with the day's most underwhelming game ending in a stalemate.

Early chances gave the fans some hope of a lively match, but with time the game turned into a mundane hourglass, waiting to run its course. Twenty minutes from the end of the match, Sampdoria attempted a final surge for all three points with Antonio Cassano at the centre of the action. However, nothing came it and thus it finished.

Sampdoria coach Walter Mazzarri could not keep still for a second during yesterday's game, shouting at players and looking very frustrated on the sidelines.

Sampdoria started the season well by holding champions Inter to a 1-1 draw in week one. They have not lived up to expectations since then, however. With the squad they have at their disposal, they were touted during the summer as this season’s potential surprise package.

Fading Fast

That tag seems to be fading fast as they have not won a single match in Serie A this season. The Inter draw was followed with a loss at Lazio and then a home draw with Chievo last week. After last night's result, then, the Blucerchiati find themselves third from bottom, tied with Bologna, and in desperate need of a good result.

Sampdoria simply do not seem to know how to win anymore. With the next encounter bringing the might of Juventus to town, the Blucerchiati had better roll up their socks and get down to business before it's too late.

Sampdoria rely heavily on their creative attacker Cassano and during the match against Juve thing will be no different. A great deal of responsibility rests on the shoulders of Il talentino di Bari. Juve are unbeaten, but they need to rack up points this weekend in order to stay close to the top of the table. Sampdoria, meanwhile, look to be in a serious crisis at the moment.
