Playing for Canada in the recent FIBA Americas Tournament came at a price for Samuel Dalembert.

Dalembert, who became a Canadian citizen in time for the Olympic-qualifying tourney in Las Vegas, suffered a stress fracture in his left foot that is expected to mean he'll wear a hard cast for the next three weeks.

The Sixers announced the injury, diagnosed by an MRI at Main Line Diagnostic Imaging in Bryn Mawr, via a release yesterday, saying they expect the starting center to be able to participate at the start of training camp Oct. 2 at Duke University. The team's Web site referred to it as a “minor injury.”

Dalembert's foot was initially placed in a protective boot before being casted.

“We will closely monitor Sam's status over the next three weeks, but we anticipate that he will be ready to return to the court in time for the start of training camp,” said Sixers president Billy King.

The 26-year-old Dalembert, who moved to Montreal from his native Haiti when he was 15, was the only Sixer to start all 82 games last season. The 6-foot-11, 250-pound Dalembert averaged career-highs in scoring (10.7), rebounds (8.9) and minutes (30.7).

    Canada finished fifth in Vegas.

Dalembert will make $9.7 million in 2007-08, which is the third season of his six-year, $62 million contract.

Typical Sammy luck. I find this quite amusing because I remember a while ago Blur saying how Sammy would get injured or something, and look what happened! Oh well. It says he'll probably be ready for training camp, so it shouldn't be a big deal. And to think we'll be paying him close to 10 million next season..... Yikes!
