What would you guys think if the Warriors moved to San Jose?

Although it would be closer to me, I would hate it. I actually think they should change their name to "Oakland Warriors". San Jose Warriors just wouldn't sound right. This team needs to remain in Oaktown.

btw- I'm just curious on your thoughts, they ARE staying in Oakland.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">At first glance, the announcement that four prominent South Bay businessmen are buying 20 percent of the Warriors might not prompt much reaction from the team's fans, aside from concern that the club might be pondering a move to San Jose.

Warriors President Robert Rowell assures that's not the case, and the team does have 13 years left on its lease at the Arena in Oakland. </div>

Unlike Baseball or Football, the Warriors are the only thing happening in the bay. Thus, I think Oakland is a great location - it's where a lot of ballers have grown up and is close enough to the other major outlets so that the residents of those cities don't complain too loudly (San Francisco, San Jose). The Arena isn't the prettiest place in the world, but it's a nice place to visit and is easy to access.

I do like the Oakland Warriors idea. I know there was an article on that just a while ago, somewhere in this forum I bet. It was just an idea, but it makes more sense - the Warriors aren't going anywhere. Might as well show some hometown pride.

Exactly. You would think that the city of Oakland would push or force the Warriors to represent their city in their name. The golden state doesn't really make sense, we aren't the only team in California and we aren't even the best team. They should represent their home town and become the Oakland Warriors just like the Angels went from California Angels to the Anehiem Angels.

From a business standpoint all the big corporate sponsors are in Santa Clara and San Jose. Moving closer might fill out all those empty luxury suites and might increase season ticket seasons sales for those city populations with more disposable income. What would they do with the new arena though? That's the big question.

BTW I wish they could move to San Jose because it seems the San Jose sports franchises are more successful. The Earthquakes, the Sabrecats, Now the Sharks. Oakland you got the land of the crazy penny pinching owners (Cohan, Schott, and Davis). I swear it makes more sense to start a new franchise in the south bay or for the Warriors to move and cash in on close-by sponsors. Then hopefully they can spend some money dammit and get the sponsors to help foot some of the bill. But if they don't I can understand beause those 3 owners suck. The A's one isn't that bad but still he's a cheapo.

There is no reason for Warriors to change their name. I mean, what's the good reason, besides little bit of pride from Oakland? It won't generate any extra revenue. As a matter of fact, they would be lucky to not alienate people in SF, they may force to give up part of their territory in some situation, and it will cost unnecessary cash to change and advertise their name. Also, we used Golden State for quite some time and even won a championship under that name...

I think that the Warriors should stay in Oakland just because of the fact that the Arena in Oakland is a far better place to watch a basketball game than the HP Pavillion would be. The Arena is built specifically for basketball and the sightlines are far better there in my opinion.

I think that it would be a good idea for the Warriors to become known as the Oakland Warriors just because that's what they are. They are based in, and play only in Oakland, so why should the name not reflect that?

I fully support any move that increases the chance that Cohan will sell controlling ownership. The new investors seem very enthusiastic, and even though Cohan didn't sell them any controlling interest, it would be nice if they became the public face of the franchise (sort of like what Pat Croce was in Philly a few years ago).

It's hard to demand accountability from your GM and coach if the owner is never seen.

As for moving the franchise or changing the name. I don't think the Warriors should move, they've built some history in Oakland and it would be nice to see them stay there. And personally, I think the Oakland Warriors sounds a lot better than the Golden State Warriors, but I wouldn't change the name if it was going to alienate corporate sponsorship.

Besides, if they changed their name to the Oakland Warriors, the people in Oakland would have one less thing to have a chip on their shoulders about, and it seems like they really like having chips on their shoulders.

The Oakland Warriors............................ hmmmmm.........................we had the Oakland Oaks, but Oakland Warriors just doesn't seem to roll off the tongue. I agree that Golden State is a generic term but maybe I'm just used to the name. Maybe they could sell the name, like Candlestick or the Arena, you know....................... The Cisco Warriors.......................... The Google Warriors.................................. Silicon Valley Warriors...................... now I'm just getting stupid.

Anyways, GSW fits them better anyways cuz it also means Gun Shot Wound, and what a better place to have that title!
Ignore bad humor above, I'm just a little punchy today.............

I think they should change their name to the Bay Area Warriors. That way it is not golden state or oakland or san fran.

Yeah but it'd be a good move to go to the HP Pavillion rather than Oakland Arena because it would force Kings fans to drive even further to watch the Kings vs. Warrior games [IMG]

Runtmc, you also forgot that GSW also stands for:

    Gangs Shooting Weapons
    Generations Seeking Welfare
    Galled Shore Workers
    Gatherings Seeking Work
    Groups Scarce Wealth
    Gangstaz Slangin' Weed
    Got Search Warrant?

Gays Seeking Weddings (oh sorry that's San Francisco not Oakland, but I guess that's happening in a lot of cities nationwide)

I just want to go on record to say that I would be totally against the Warriors changing their name to the Oakland Warriors (or San Jose for that matter). I just would have a very hard time cheering that team because I have grown up to hate teams from Oakland (Raiders, A's) and I know a lot of Warrior fans (from SF) that feel the same way.
