Anyone else taking them on Saturday? I just finished taking a diagnostics and it was mad long. My mind was drifting so much during those 4 hours. Testing has never been my thing and I'm a little nervous about it.

MrJ, I'm taking my SATs on Saturday too. I already took 4 practice tests from Kaplan, so I already know its going to be a bitch to take. So much goddamn pressure with it too.

I'm taking the PSAT on Wednesday, probably taking the SAT in spring or next fall. I've been taking an SAT class every Monday night since last May because I did really well on the PSAT last year (doesnt make sense to me to make the people who did well take a class but my parents made me take it). I'm usually pretty damn good at taking tests like these (SAT, PSAT, mid-terms, finals, etc.) so I'm not too worried.

I already took the SAT once, and i'm taking it this saturday as well, somewhat of a mistake i think because i haven't prepared well enough and you really can improve your score A LOT if you study vocab and stuff. But i got like a 1990 or something so whatever, SAT is WHACK, too damn long.

What exactly is a top score? You know a really good grade? I feel kinda stupid because I have no idea on how the SAT's are graded.

Kidd, you get like 200 points on SAT for writing your name on it [IMG] And also since I am in 9th grade, I will be taking my PSAT hopefully next year. And in 11th year, I will take SAT. Also, its pretty hard, so GOOD LUCK to everyone who is taking it, hope you guys do really good.

Sounds hard. Is it possible to get a tutor to help you with that section?

I really dont know but I think they have like 3 different parts in SAT. Math, Reading, and Writing (essay). I dont know if I am right or not, but I think that's how it is, and also you can prepare for it by buying books and using computer to help you on it and stuff. There are a bunch of things that can help you to prepare for it.

ok well the test now is out of 2400, so a really good score, to me at least because my family is all scholarly and smart, is around or above a 2100, 1990 i know many people consider really good and i'm fine with that. To be honest i think that a 1800 and above is really good but don't feel stupid if you get like a 1500 because maybe you just need more practice or are just simply not very good at test taking...

I don't want to make anyone feel dumb who didn't get a score like i mentioned because i know test taking isn't everything, i'm just fairly good at it. Not spectacular.

ohh, and each section, of which there are 3, is out of 800. Theres the math, which i think goes up to algebra 2, or algebra 3/4 now, and reading comprehension, and writing which now you have to actually write a short essay for.

that was my stupid information on the SAT because my mom is obsessed.

Okay, here is the breakdown of the test just to clarify:

Math (200-800)
Critical Analysis (200-800)
Writing (200-800)

So basically the best score you can get is a 2400 and you start out with at least a 600. You will always take the writing portion first so you get that out of the way early. Your writing score is given a 2-12(total grade) as two different graders grade it from a (1-6). If those peoples grades differ by more than a point(i.e. one gives you a 4 and the other gives you a 6), a another person will come in to make the decision.

So the best you can get on the SAT writing is a 12. Now from what I have heard and seen the SAT writing is all about writing how the College Board wants you to write. I hear it is literally a bluepring of what they want to see in the structure of the paper. So if you are taking a class - you have a HUGE advantage in that department.

I graduated from HS last year and am a freshman in college. This means I was the first class to take this new SAT and colleges required it. Now, in the past the test was two parts - math and critical analysis(out of 1600). Since the writing score was so new and it was never done before it was sort of a "test" year for it. No schools cared what you got on your writing score - in fact I never submitted my writing score because they never asked for it. It will probably take a few years before colleges seriously look at your writing score because it hasn't been determined how accurate it is in portraying a student's ability to write.

I am not sure about the writing section this year, however I am pretty willing to bet college will not take it into consideration because it is just so new and they haven't had time to accurately judge it.

Thanks for breaking it down, Hunter. I want them to count the writing portion since I tend to excel in that area. I took the diagnostics yesterday and did pretty well on the writing/reading portion, but I'm terrible at math, so that brought my score down.

So, since it's tommorow do I just take it easy and chill or study?

You can't study for a test that you don't know what is going to be on it. I would literally relax and just make sure to get a goodnight's sleep.
