WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (37-0-1, 27 KO’s) could be defending his title against welterweight fringe contender Alfonso Gomez (23-4-2, 12 KO’s) on September 17th in a still to be determined venue.

If the 30-year-old Gomez gets the call for the fight it will give Alvarez a nice short fight that will likely be explosive for four or five rounds before Alvarez destroys the 5’9″ Gomez. Alvarez is on another level compared to Gomez, who has struggled when matched tough. Gomez does well against B level fighters and fringe contenders, but when he’s been in tough with the likes Miguel Cotto and Peter Manfredo Jr., Gomez has lost.
