"Joe Saunders spent most of the season's first month pitching himself into trouble. Against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night, he did a pretty good job of pitching out of it.

The left-hander got out of a key bases-loaded situation in the seventh inning while clinging to a one-run lead and the Angels hung on through another shaky ninth inning by closer (still) Brian Fuentes to beat the White Sox, 3-2.

Saunders held the White Sox to one run on four hits in 7 2/3 innings, a strong follow-up to the four-hit shutout in his previous start that optimistically seemed to herald his late arrival into the season.

After posting a 1-5 record and 7.04 ERA in his first six starts, Saunders is 2-0 with two earned runs allowed in 22 1/3 innings over his past three starts.

"It was very important," Saunders said of producing a solid sequel to last weekend's shutout. "We haven't exactly been playing the most consistent baseball. The pitching staff, especially Weave, has picked me up for five or six starts when I was struggling. It feels good to contribute."

The Angels needed every bit of Saunders' revival with White Sox left-hander John Danks holding them to just one hit through seven innings. That one hit, though, was a two-run home run by Torii Hunter in the fourth. Hunter has homered in three consecutive games and driven in 19 runs over the past 17 games."
