Ok everyone, first off I'm not some activist or anything, but there are just some things that become too much to overlook. If you're looking for a dog, adopt a Galgos Spanish Greyhound. Why? Well for one thing they are very intelligent and can be very good companions. Study up on them to learn more. The point of this thread is to inform you of why you should think about saving them through adoption or help through organizations.

These dogs are used to hunt in Spain. When they reach two years of age, they are considered no longer of use. Do they put them up for adoption? No. Instead these hunters choose their animal's way of death. If the dog was a good hunter then he or she gets to "enjoy" a quick and painless death. If the dog was a poor or mediocre hunter then he or she is doomed to have a slow and painful death through many different means. Some of these include being hunted themselves brutally. Dropped in empty wells and left to starve to death. Some to have their legs tied down and beaten to death or even scorned in some cases.

With animal activists (not PETA) already making charges, the Spanish government is starting to crack down on these bastards. The problem is they can't change the way even regular people in Spain view these animals as simply mechnisisms and not pets or living creatures. While some hunters fear a backlash from abusing the animal, they still do horrible things to it. They will bring their dogs far from home and break their legs so that they cannot follow them back.

You can adopt the animals through many different organizations in the US, UK and France among others, which the highest fee can be up to only 300 dollars. That is a small price to pay for an animal to save that is so intelligent and very loyal. There are many websites out there where you can gather more information such as GRIN, which I've listed below. This is a serious matter, so if interested in the future, think of adopting one of these dogs. My fianc?e and I are already preparing to take one in once we are living on our own.

"Galgos are unfortunately bred in large numbers by unscrupulous breeders, who then kill them in the most barbaric ways possible- hanging, burning, battering, shooting, or throwing them from a moving car. It is estimated that about 50,000 are killed each year, although some sources say 100,000 is the more likely number. (Source: FAZ Article)."

    Jesus christ...... that's terrible.

Yep, so everyone please think about adopting one if you're planning on getting a dog sometime soon and this one reads out to suit you and your lifestyle.

Jesus, what the hell is wrong with these people? It's cool you're adopting one of these. I'll pass the word on to some friends in Europe.
