Is this like an existential crisis for 49er fans? Honestly, I like and get Sherman. I personally wouldn't put up with some of his BS in my organization, but on a football team I guess you can do that more, especially a successful one. It sucks that he blew out his Achilles, and I hope he can come back to something approximating his normal performance, but I'm ok with the Hawks taking the risk that he doesn't and they get burned 2x a year by him, vice crippling the cap to pay a PUP/IR/shell-of-himself player. Frankly, I think the Kam Chancellor injury was way more of a bellwether for the LoB, and with him probably not playing again and Sherm gone, I'm half-expecting an Earl Thomas trade to the Cowboys and a fresh start in the secondary. Would be a lot easier if we had a little draft capital, but
I will always be some sort of 49ers fan. NFL football is just not my thing. I’m still into the 49ers of my youth when I had a greater desire to follow the NFL. That being said, I have my passion for my hatred of the C’awks. Happy to see they’re becoming less relevant, but hate to see someone like Sherman on the Niners. I have no doubt the Niners have a ton of protection should Sherman be a bust (I fully expect he will be). Disappointed they’d swing that way, though.
Let’s say he does. Then let’s say ET3 followed him there. Would you feel better about that? Edit: oh wow he did
The Niners are already better than the C’awks. Taking Dick Sherman, as much as I hate him and think he’ll be worthless, is just salt on the wound at this point.
I'm not overly thrilled about this signing. He'll be 30 and coming off an Achilles tear, and even before that he wasn't the same Corner in 2017 that he was just two or three years ago. I think we could have done better with signing Butler. BUT....we still have the money to sign Butler if we want, and if Sherman can coach up and mentor Ahkello Witherspoon and the other young guys on our Secondary, then that is a huge bonus that you can't put a price tag on. We still have about $60M in Cap space, so let's go after another big name. Most of the guys I want are all franchise tagged, but I see Andrew Norwell being a FA Guard from Carolina. Allen Robinson would also be a decent pick up at the right price with his injury history.
Who had the better record in 1994? Same answer as your question. Nobody gives a fuck. Season over. Coming season, Niners all day.
At the end of the day, i hope both the hawks and niners do well. Makes for a more fun divisional battle! Edit: ive never really hated the niners, i was actually a fan back in the montana/rice era. Always liked their uniforms too
