...is the next 'phins offensive co-ordinator. It appears that the one person I wanted to get the OC gig got it. I can guarantee the offense will not be boring & predictable. Further, I've heard Saban is hands on when it comes to defense & lets the offense do its thing. Yee haw!! If the OL improves & the running game gets back to mediocre even then good things are in store for the Dwo.
It should be a good pickup for you, but I would also be concerned. Linehan has been able to work with some outstanding players. Moss alone has helped in the numbers for the offense. A few points to ponder: 1. During the past three seasons he has been too quick to move to a conservative, clock-killing game management when the Vikings were ahead. This is one of the reasons that the Vikings never seem to be able to blowout a team. 2. He never pushed for a solid backfield. One of the biggest problems for the Vikings this year was their running attack. There was never a clear #1 running back. As a result, the Vikings did not have a 1000 yard rusher nor did they rank very high at all for rushing. 3. He's had trouble adapting game plans. I remember specifically a game against Chicago where for some reason the gameplan was to play "boring" football, as it was termed by Tice. Run the ball, take short passes, etc. The result was a loss and the lowest output points wise for the season. After the first half it was evident that the team was not geared for that style of play, and Chicago was geared perfectly for it. He failed to make the adjustment. Overall, he is a good coordinator, and some of these negative points may be attributable to Tice. At the same time, you might ask if it is possible to do poorly with the offensive talent the Vikings have. I'll be interested to see how he pans out in Miami.
I was hoping you'd weigh in, VF. I appreciate your thoughts. As for point 1, Wanny played that way from the time training camp opened in late july. Linehan is upgrade. I like the backfield by committee that the Vikings used. In a perfect world, Miami would draft Ronnie Brown from Auburn. A 3 headed monster of Brown, Gordon, & Morris is something I could live with. As for point 3, at least, Linehan can adapt. Again, vanilla Dave wouldn't adapt or adjust which drove me nuts the last couple of seasons. Miami has talent on the offense so it'll be interesting to see what Chambers & the rest can do w/ the new style.
