Seahawks looking for explosion

In a Seattle Seahawks roster analysis he performed for the Tacoma News Tribune, Eric Williams notes that the team could use another explosive player in the offensive backfield. This would be in addition to the need at outside linebacker upon the trade of Julian Peterson, and the need for a successor to Walter Jones at left tackle. While the No. 4 overall draft pick should yield either a top-notch tackle or Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry, the team may opt to go fishing in the sea of free agent running backs still available. Alternatively, they could use some later-round picks at the position, as there are some value options that should be available after the first round.

Of the remaining free agent running backs, there is not a lot to be excited about unless you traveled back a few years in a time machine. Ahman Green, Warrick Dunn, Rudi Johnson and Michael Pittman are all past their primes, and are not suited for what the Seahawks are looking for. The only X factor in the market is Deuce McAllister. Deuce is coming off another knee surgery, but intends to schedule a workout for NFL teams in April. If the Seahawks are convinced that Deuce's speed has returned, he could be an option, however unlikely that is.

With no standouts in the draft class at running back, the Hawks will likely avoid the position at No. 4 overall, but by the time their second-round pick - No. 37 overall - rolls around, there's a chance that Ohio State's Chris Wells could still be on the board. Wells will make a visit to Seattle, and in spite of his durability issues, Wells' scouting report talks of great initial burst at the line of scrimmage and a tremendous top speed for a player of his size. Another option will be Pittsburgh's LeSean McCoy, who is smaller in stature, but is also a burner.
