http://www.nba.com/allstar2008/rookie_sophomore_080130.html I can't believe Bargs made it in instead of Boone. I'm not saying Boone is going to be better or has more potential but Bargs has been awful.
You think the first pick would get snubbed like that? He might not deserve it, but Boone's not going to get it over him, even with his great season.
Bargnani's averaging 8.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg and .5 bpg in 22:30 mpg Boone's at 7.4, 7.0 and .6 in 22:41 I know which one's better right now...

probably cuz he was god awful at the beginning of the year, to the point of some wanting to waive him
I think Boone is awesome, especially for where he was drafted, but the only plus skill he has right now is offensive rebounding. Take that away, and he's a below-average player. Again, don't get me wrong; I'm thrilled the nets drafted him and think he'll develop into a solid rotation guy--but let's not oversell him.

I mean what's Jason Kidd without his passing? (Let me know if I'm not following you, though). But all this is a moot point because he is a good offensive rebounder. Plus he's improved on his hands immensely and has been averaging a double double as of late

Since coming to the Nets, though, he has generally played plus defense, gets steals, and has been somewhat a three-piont threat. I'm not sure how well Boone is playing defense right now. He shoots just 50%, which is terrible for someone who doesn't shoot the ball from more than four feet away. His free throw percentage is a total liability. He doesn't block shots or pass the ball particularly well. What he is good at is scoring garbage points and hopefully eventually will play good defense. I always felt that he was a good match for the Nets' needs. However, with Kidd on his way out, and possibly carter also, that may no longer be the case. I worry about his future, and his role in the new order.

He is closing off lanes and getting to the baseline very consistently. He is also making less and less glaring errors and communicating much more effectively with his teammates. He used to get completely lost a dozen times a game. Now he's down to a few and it's not always his fault. I agree with what you say he needs to work on, but I am very optimistic. He has shown a lot of good instincts and intelligence. He has the desire and ability to learn. I also like his newfound confidence and personality. He is much more relaxed. I can see him getting to a reasonable percentage at the line and developing a limited but effective arsenal of offensive moves within a year or two. And for a rebounder as talented as he is, that will make him valuable no matter what kind of team the Nets become.

Millsap can't play center.

He looked very comfortable bodying up centers and seemed to make the types of "rookie" mistakes that are just a part of learning NBA defense. He's clearly a hard worker, or else he wouldn't have gotten off the bench at all. If there's one strong argument to keep Collins (that is, if we're thinking about including him in any of these franchise-busting deals we're about to make), it's that he's an EXCELLENT player-coach for guys like Boone and Swat. You can see it in the way Boone plays defense, and the parts of Sean's game that have improved quickest. As bad as the defense has been, it's been way better than it should be considering we're starting, essentially, two rookie big men.
What I love about Boone's defense is the way in which he doesn't give up any space in the post. He's becoming pretty good at holding his ground and keeping the opponent from getting closer. My only criticism is that his lateral quickness leaves a lot to be desired. This was more recently exploited during our past game with the Clippers; Boone could establish position and keep Kaman from scoring, but when Chris decided to use speed and quickness and go around Boone he had his way with him.
Long term, the only things that really worry me about Boone are 1. Injuries. Both offseasons with the Nets, hasn't he been injured? That's seriously something to worry about. Bad enough we already have 1 injury-prone big man. 2. Free throw shooting. No explanation needed, really. 3. Confidence issues. I hope this is a thing he will get over quickly.

Maybe I am not reading right but are some people really putting JB down even though he has been possibly the nets best player as of late? I am not worried at all about his future, i know it is bright and he is going to be a nets gem for a long time ahead.
