It's that time of year again folks, the draft lottery, to be staged this Wednesday the 26th of May. Seattle have only an 0.9% chance of landing the top pick, and look destined to get the 12th pick for the 3rd time in four years. Fingers crossed, people!

Seattle's lottery history since it began in 1985:

2003: 12th pick - Nick Collison, 14th pick (via Milwaukee) - Luke Ridnour

    2001: 12th pick - Vladimir Radmanovic

1999: 13th pick - Corey Maggette (traded to Orlando, along with Don McLean, Billy Owens and Dale Ellis' contracts, for Horace Grant)

1994: 11th pick (via Charlotte) - Carlos Rogers (traded to Golden State, along with Ricky Pierce and two second rounders, for Byron Houston and Sarunas Marciulionis)

    1990: 2nd pick - Gary Payton

1987: 5th pick (via New York) - Scottie Pippen (traded to Chicago for Olden Polynice, a second round pick and the option to switch first rounder in '89 [IMG] )

    1985: 4th pick - Xavier McDaniel

I'm still pissed that we traded Maggette. I knew that was a stupid move as soon as we made it.

That's what I thought at first, until I found out why we made that move.

By trading Maggette, we also got rid of three contracts for an expiring deal in Horace Grant. This enabled us to get far enough under the cap to re-up GP after that season. It's my understanding that, if we had kept that pick, we would have drafted William Avery instead.

No doubt CMaggz is establishing himself as a super player, though.

Well Orlando got the number one pick, the Clippers number two and Chicago number 3.

Seattle will be picking 12th for the third time in four years, as it stands.

Right now, I'm looking at a major trade with the Clippers, who have the second pick that everybody says should be used on Dwight Howard or Emeka Okafor, but already have Brand, Wilcox, and Ely waiting. Perhaps Lewis and Murray for Brand/Wilcox and Richardson? I think it's a possibility, unless a guard or small forward absolutely lights it up in predraft workouts, allowing the Clippers to take them instead.

Yep, I was considering exactly what Casual was as soon as the lotto came out. LA really have no need for Howard with the trio of Brand, Wilcox and Kaman. Rashard Lewis plus filler would be the go, but I'm not sure if LA would have sufficient contracts to fill in the CBA requirements.

The #2 pick makes about 4 mil right? ... and Lewis about 9 mil. So we'll have to take on a couple of dingy contracts, or re-sign one of their average players for 5 mil.

Either way, if we got Howard, it would be worth it.

The Clips would probably be after one of Ridnour and Murray. Murray has the street cred, and is only on about 800k, so that's do-able.

Very interesting indeed, although the Clips could be looking at Shaun Livingston.

Howard is a building block, if they are planning on drafting him then I would bank on Brand becoming available. Brand makes a bit more than Shard, but they will have cap room if Q leaves like expected.

Lewis and Flip to the Clippers for Elton Brand?

If the Sonics tried to get only Elton, it would have to be some combination of Lewis and: Daniels, Radman, Collison, Ridnour, Evans, Sesay, Flip, and Frahm, because that's the only way the contracts would work. I like the idea, though.

^ Don't the Clippers have cap room though? They may make a run at Kobe, although I've heard a few whispers that he won't go there.

How about instead of Brand we give you guys Dwigh Howard lol

I think the most likely situation is the Clippers drafting Howard then trading his pick down for a PG and something else, or drafting Harris or Gordon at 2, but they shouldn't go that high. We could also take Livingston, but I'm not keen on the development time.

Kobe is 99.9% likely to remain at the Lakers, IMO. Everything we've seen and heard from their ownership leans toward explusion of the other 3/4s of the big 4.

og15: Lewis and Flip (for Howard) is a pretty damn good trade for you guys, particularly if we send you future considerations. You'll have quality at all 5 spots.

I seriously doubt we'll nab Brand off you, so efforts should be directed at getting Howard.

I'd rather have Wilcox than Howard. Seattle isn't exactly a religious town, either, so I don't know how much Dwight would like it.

Actually Murray is on for a little over 600k and is in his last year of his contract. I don't think that Sterling is going to want to shell out big bucks to Murray anyway after the season. What does "street cred" have to do w/ anything. He can play. No one says that Ridnour has "church cred."

    Why?

...because street cred sells jerseys, which generates revenue, and Donald Sterling is rather fond of revenue.

Sterling, like any other owner, is fond of making money. How many people do you see w/ Ronald Murray jerseys? How many Ron Artest, Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jamaal Tinsley, and Quinton Richardson (to name a very few) jerseys do you see on a constant basis? They all have "street cred." Somehow I think that you were doing a back tracking w/ your last comment. I never heard the word "street cred" ever mentioned w/ John Stockton, and that dude was as tough as they came in NBA history or Jason Williams (Memphis) who at one point had nothing but a playground game. No one said he had "street cred." That's all bs.

    He's right tho'.

Streed cred goes along way with today fan. Thats one reason cats like Iverson,Marbury and Francis are so popular. They are easliy identifiable by most of street cats because of their hard scrabble background, street style game and the type of street swagger they bring to the court. Why do you think the NBA jumped all over the streetball thing, endorsing tournaments and even coming out with NBA Street Series dvds.

The street is a money maker and the NBA and owners capitalize on it.

I actually didn't mean it as a Lewis and Flip for Howard trade, I don't think that could work anyway, Rashard makes too much, but Howard and someone else for Lewis and Flip would work.
