There seems to be mixed feelings all around for this trade, and i want to see what people think about these guys.I think that when it "clicks" with Sebastian, he could very well be a star. He has all the tools: amazing quickness and ballhandling, great vision, he's aggressive on both ends. He just needs to improve him mentality and decision making skills. Randy Foye also has the potential to be a star. He is an incredible scorer, a good leader, a good defender, he'll be a hell of a player. But i don't think he can ever turn around to be a true PG. He really has a score-first mentality. He tries to be dominant, and i'm not so sure that will work out in his first few years in the league. And i feel that even if Foye becomes the better player, Telfair will be the better fit for Boston and the better true pg.
I think Foye will end up being the better player, but Telfair the better point guard, but I think they'll both be stars in the league, which makes me sad, because my hometown Blazers traded away both of them :brickwall:
As a blazer fan, i'd much rather have Brandon Roy than Randy Foye tho. He's a complete player, he has a shot at ROY, and he can fill in at pg. He's one of the toughest players in recent drafts, as well as one of the best defenders. LaMarcus will also be a great pick, especially if Pryzbilla signs else where. And "Spanish Chocolate" will be great. He's one of the better playmakers i've seen in a while, his vision and passing ability is amazing.
As of right now, i will give the edge to Sebastian simply because Randy Foye hasn't even played in an NBA game yet. People are already saying that Randy Foye is better and they dont know how he will turn out at this level. Sebastian is tough, he can get to the hole and finish with contact, and he is a good passer. Randy Foye is obviously a better shooter but that is something that Sebastian has been working on. They are probably about the same age if not seperated by a year so i will go with Sebastian. And for all you portland fans, you absolutley dominated this draft. You got two of the best 5 players in the draft along with an amazing play maker.
Yea, right now Telfair has the edge. But when their careers are all said and done, I agree with the poster a few above me: Foye might be the better player, but Telfair will always be the better PG. I mean I think both of them will have successful careers, and I'm happy my Celtics have one of them, but I think as far as true PG goes: Telfair. Foye is Chauncey 2.0 in my opinion, but add a little more athleticism and subtract a little playmaking ability.
I really could not believe they traded the 7th pick when they could have had Foye. And if they really wanted AI this could have locked it up for them to get AI. Because the Sixers gm Billy King said after the draft that they really tryed to move up to get Foye. So Boston could have kept there pick drafted Foye, and then made a deal with other players also to trade for AI. Sixers would have done that, because they really wanted Foye. I really think they messed up there chances of getting AI.I think Foye will be better then Telfair. I did not see Telfair play to much though so I can't really judge.Foye can score, and play D, and rebound for his size.

We wanted him badly.

You obviously didn't know that Minnesota was going to take Foye at 6 had we not made that Portland deal. The reason they took Roy and traded him instead was because they knew/heard Portland did the trade and planned to take Roy at 7. In conclusion, McHale did the smart thing and took Roy so he could trade him to Portland for Foye and get a little extra out of it. So if we kept the pick, it would have been Roy or Gay for us. But at the same time, they are wings, and we have Pierce/Wally/Green/Allen with Delonte at some 2 and Gomes at some 3. And to top it off, Ainge already stated that if we did indeed keep the pick, he would have selected Rondo at 7 anyway. He is extremely high on him and he said he rated him the #1 PG in this draft (Foye not a true point, Williams overweight/out of shape). Brandon Roy would have been unbelievable too though, but he doesn't really fit here with all our wings, and either way, I'm happy with Telfair he has a nice future, plus we unloaded Raef's contract and got Ratliff (contract expires 1 year sooner.. much better fit on the Celtics), PLUS Ainge got his guy (Rondo) at 21 anyway in a trade with Phoenix. So everything worked out for Ainge.
Randy Foye. Better shooter, scorer and defender. I'm not sure about passer, but Bassy is also one of those streetball types who doesn't like to play fundamental basketball. I don't know about you guys, but I hate those kinda pg's. Especially with having to deal with Alston and Mike " Mo' Money" James for 2 years. Yeesh.

I think Telfair was ready t break out last year, but his thumb injury took away his chance.
I also HAD mixed feelings about this but now that the draft has settled down and I have really gotten to take a look at where everyone is in the NBA I came to this conclusion.Sebastian Telfair is a great talented young player who in Portland didnt really get a chance to be around any players who complimented his playing style. I think that in Boston he will be around a bunch of guys who can really showcase him and what he is good at. Randy Foye is a great player in College but will he be productive in the NBA? No one knows and that is why I feel that Ainge made a fair decision to make moves for the present and not the future. They have two first round draft picks next year and can really pick up some talented guys, Noah maybe? It will obviously depend how they finish out the up and coming season. This is what makes it all great, the unpredictabilty of the NBA. You dont know wether or not Sabby will be a bust or a must. Likewise for Foye.

Likewise for Foye.</div> Agreed, Portland didn't fit Bassy's style of play. Their style is feed the ball to Randolph and Miles, who both are inconsistant and bad teammates to look up to. They didn't let Bassy excel on the break like they could have. Management was terrible down there. I think Boston is perfect for Telfair because he pushes the ball and likes to run, just like us. He now also has reliable players around him to feed the ball to and to learn from (Pierce, Wally, Delonte.. plus some other excellent young talent). Now Telfair has good management, a good organization, a team that has a chance at the playoffs, a MUCH better fan base, and some veteran leaders/mentors around him. I think he will excel his game in Boston, and I can't wait to see him on the court. As a matter of fact, I can't wait to even find out how he plays Saturday in our 1st summer league game.
now let's just hope that Doc will let these guys run. It'd be a shame if he held up guys like Telfair, Allen, and Green running the break.I'm now more confident in the trade as well. I'm having less faith in Foye's abilities now, and more faith in Bassy's.
i think telfair will be a better PG.. although foye a better overall player..... for u celtic guys... how do u think the celts rotation will look next year.. or how will the depth chart look... will rondo get time at pg.. will west play more SG now... they seem pretty deep at the 1,2,3..
both have crowed backcourts but foye lucked out with mccants getting hurt so he might have a bigger seasonF*ck mike james he is a waste of money for the twolves in 07/08 season foye and rash will tear it upyou have less faith in foye wow he teared up with summer league

Telfair..he hasnt gotten a lot of chance to play with portland and I think he will have a better situation with the celtics than foye will have with the timberwolves

And i would say their potential is about equal.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (bigticket21 @ Jul 18 2006, 09:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>i think telfair will be a better PG.. although foye a better overall player..... for u celtic guys... how do u think the celts rotation will look next year.. or how will the depth chart look... will rondo get time at pg.. will west play more SG now... they seem pretty deep at the 1,2,3..</div>yeah, it is pretty crowded, which is why i think a trade is on the way. Telfair, West, Rondo, Allen, and Wally will all demand time at the 1/2, and you know Doc will play Wally alot. my guess is that wally is the odd man out, but if not him, probably Tony Allen.

Telfair will get a good chunk of minutes but not as many as Foye the Celtics have a very deep backcourt with lots of guys getting time. Wolves got a lot of crap in Marko who there trying to give away and T-Hud who will never be healthy. Plus Foye will be in a stronger lineup with players like KG, Ricky Davis, Mike James and even Mark Blount will keep pressure off Foye and not force him to always look to score the ball. You also got the constant double-teaming of KG and the ability to pass the ball out for Ricky or James to shoot the outside shot will give Foye the chance to do what he does best, thats slash inside to the basket. You defintely wont see that in Boston with Paul Pierce yea hes a tremendous player but he doesnt need a double-team and Wally Szczerbiak who just sits there and waits for the ball to come to him. Dont forget the downlow presence cause I sure as hell dont see it.
