Mexico announces 56 percent drop in number of migrants arriving at US border
By Morgan Phillips | Fox News

The Mexican government announced Friday that the number of migrants coming to its border with the U.S. had dropped by 56 percent over the past three months as the country tries to avert President Trump's threatened tariffs on Mexico's exports to its northern neighbor.

Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, citing data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the number of migrants apprehended at the frontier in August was 63,989 in August, down from 146,266 in May. Those numbers included people who presented themselves at U.S. ports of entry and were deemed inadmissible.

The Mexican government has deployed more than 20,000 police officers and National Guard troops across the country as part of an aggressive campaign meant to deter Central American migrants from passing through its territory en route to the United States. Ebrard said there had been seven formal complaints of human rights violations involving the National Guard, a relatively low number which he saw as another sign of success.

The U.S. and Mexico agreed in June to a 90-day window to allow Mexico to reduce the flow of migrants from Central America to the U.S. The agreement averted plans by Trump to impose a five percent tariff on Mexican goods in the U.S. that would have increased every month until it hit 25 percent.

Ebrard, is scheduled to meet with U.S. officials at the White House Tuesday to review the Mexican government's progress.

"We're showing that the strategy that Mexico put forward has been successful," Ebrard told reporters. "I don't expect a tariff threat Tuesday because it wouldn't make sense."

Despite the apparent progress in stopping illegal migration, Ebrard repeated his government's refusal to become a so-called "third country,' as Trump has proposed. That would require migrants seeking asylum in the U.S. to apply for such protections in Mexico instead.

"The Mexican strategy is working," said Ebrard, according to Agence-France Press. "We will not agree to be a safe third country ... because it goes against our interests. It is unfair to our country."

Trump has not yet responded to the latest figures, but on Wednesday he seemed very pleased by Mexican efforts. "I want to thank Mexico, the Mexican government, their great President of Mexico, for helping us," he told reporters. "They're helping us in a very big way. Far bigger than anybody thought even possible."

In addition to stopping U.S.-bound migrants, Mexico said it has been targeting smuggling networks, which it blames for instigating large migrant caravans bound for the U.S. which popped up earlier this year. Authorities have raided freight trains that migrants ride north, and pulled thousands off buses and out of the freight compartments of trucks. The government has warned bus and taxi drivers they could lose their permits if they transport migrants.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

California sheriff blasts 'folks in Sacramento' after illegal immigrant allegedly shoots deputy, sparks chase

By Paulina Dedaj | Fox News
Illegal immigrant arrested in shooting of California sheriff's deputy

A California sheriff is calling for immigration reform in his state after he says sanctuary city policies freed a violent illegal immigrant who went on to shoot a police officer and lead cops on a wild, high-speed chase.

Guadalupe Lopez-Herrara, 51, was taken into custody Thursday, a day after the Merced County’s Sheriff’s Office says Lopez-Herrara shot a deputy attempting to arrest him for allegedly violating a restraining order, FOX26 reported.

"This person is not a legal citizen within the United States," Merced Sheriff Vernon Warnke said at a press conference Thursday. "We had him in our custody in January of this year. And because of the folks in Sacramento limiting our ability to cooperate with ICE, we could not turn him over."

The deputy, a sergeant with the sheriff’s office, sustained non-life threatening injuries after police say Lopez-Herrara, described as a known violent criminal, shot him in the leg and vest Wednesday.

A shootout subsequently broke out between Lopez-Herrara and deputies -- but Lopez-Herrara managed to hide behind shrubbery and open fire, pinning down cops long enough to allow his escape.

Several law enforcement agencies launched a manhunt but were unable to locate him until the following morning. A high-speed pursuit ensued after Lopez-Herrara was spotted in a stolen truck on Highway 46, FOX26 reported.

Police say Lopez-Herrera was previously in custody in January for other violent crimes. (Merced County’s Sheriff’s Office)

The chase -- which reached speeds of 120 mph -- ended when Lopez-Herrara hit a spike strip.

Police say Lopez-Herrera fired shots at them from inside the vehicle, but he was stopped by a K-9 and taken into custody.

"Bottom line is our immigration policies need to be revamped because we're gonna continue to have more of this situation happen...We knew ahead of time this guy's potential for violence was there,” Warnke said.

Sanctuary city laws in California have limited local law enforcement’s ability to convey information to federal agencies about illegal immigrants taken into their custody.

Warnke said Lopez-Herrara has a violent history that includes assault with a deadly weapon, felony assault, spousal abuse and possession of narcotics.

He is currently being held at the Merced County Jail.

6 MS-13 gang members, illegal immigrants involved in deadly Maryland stabbing, ICE says

By Travis Fedschun | Fox News

Six of the seven people charged in the stabbing death of a man in Maryland in July have been identified by federal officials as being part of the MS-13 gang and in the country illegally, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The Baltimore County Police Department announced Tuesday that seven suspects, including a 16-year-old charged as an adult, were charged with killing 21-year-old Daniel Alejandro Alvarado Cuellar.

Cuellar's body was discovered July 31 in the grass outside an apartment building in the Townson area and had "multiple sharp-force injuries," officials said in a news release.

19 MS-13 GANG MEMBERS INDICTED IN 'MEDIEVAL-STYLE' CALIFORNIA SLAYINGS WERE IN COUNTRY ILLEGALLY, OFFICIALS SAY

Police said that Cuellar was the intended victim of a planned gang-related murder, but said a motive for the slaying remained under investigation.

“We know this group of individuals was conducting surveillance on him, they were watching him, following him. We know they watched as he left the laundromat and went back across the street to the apartment complex and that is where some of those individuals accosted him,” Baltimore County Police Officer Jennifer Peach told FOX45. “We know they used knives and multiple people stabbed him multiple times.”

The seven suspects were all charged with first-degree murder, according to police.

They have been identified as Jonathan Escobar-Hernandez, 20, of Towson, Md.; Marlon Leonardo Fabian-Flores, 20, of Manchester, Md.; Edwin Edgardo Garcia-Martir, 18, of Middle River, Md.; Hugo Portillo-Chavez, 31, of Cockeysville, Md.; Jose Fausto Rivera-Coreas, 19, of Cockeysville, Md.; Odaliz Rosas-Yanez, 20, of Cockeysville, Md.; and Leonel Alexander Velasquez-Hernadez, 16, of Cockeysville, Md.

An ICE spokeswoman told Fox News on Sunday that the agency has issued six immigration detainers. The federal agency said that detainers were lodged once the individuals entered local law enforcement custody on murder charges.

USCIA acting director Ken Cuccinelli discusses the new details about arrested MS-13 members on 'The Ingraham Angle.'

Of the seven suspects, six are in the U.S. illegally, the ICE spokeswoman added. Of the six illegal immigrant suspects, who were not named, five are Salvadoran and one is Mexican, ICE said.

PROSECUTORS ACCUSE MS-13 OF 7 'MEDIEVAL-STYLE' SLAYINGS, INCLUDING CUTTING HEART OUT OF RIVAL

All of the six illegal immigrants were identified as MS-13 members in an ICE gang database, the ICE spokeswoman said.

Investigators believe that Cuellar's killing was due to a war between two rival Latino street gangs, the 18th Street and MS-13, according to the Baltimore Sun.

22 MS-13 members being charged with machete murders

The 21-year-old had been seen making a hand gesture that was believed to be “indicative of an affiliation with the 18th Street,” detectives wrote in charging documents obtained by the Sun.

    MS-13 BECOMES TRUMP'S PUBLIC ENEMY NO. 1

The seven suspects arrested in connection with Cuellar's slaying remain held without bail in the Baltimore County Detention Center, according to police. All seven could face a life sentence in prison if they are convicted, officials said, while adding that it's possible that others may also face charges in connection to the murder.

MS-13 is active in Maryland, but is usually focused in the suburbs around Washington D.C. Earlier this year, a 14-year-old girl was killed with a machete and a baseball bat when MS-13 gang members turned on an associate "in extremely violent behavior."

That slaying came only months after authorities arrested five MS-13 gang members for the murder of another MS-13 member, Jacson Chicas, 16. He was stabbed more than 100 times and then dumped on the side of a Virginia road and set on fire.

In 2019, officials said that MS-13 has been ramping up recruitment in the D.C. area after taking a break in 2018.

"We've seen a rise in gang activity here this spring. There have been a few homicides in the region, as you've seen," Jay Lanham, director of the Northern Virginia Gang Task Force, told FOX5 in June. "Last year, we saw the gangs, especially MS-13, laying low. We arrested a lot of the program and clique leaders so their leadership was lacking."

Lanham said at the time that the 18th Street Gang is MS-13's top rival.

MS-13, also known as La Mara Salvatrucha, recruits young teenagers from El Salvador and Honduras, though many gang members were born in the U.S. The gang has been blamed for dozens of killings since January 2016 across a wide swath of New York's Long Island, the Los Angeles area, and the D.C suburbs.

The notorious MS-13 gang has been singled out by President Trump for its brutality, which has led to a series of crackdowns by law enforcement on the federal and local levels.

Yeah, I tried to find reports of gangs of illegal alien Swedes stabbing kids 100 times and hacking them to pieces with machetes but failed to find even one such news item anywhere.

Maybe it's a cultural thing? :dunno:

Maybe you could state your opinion on why you dismiss and thereby support/applaud such heinous crimes?

The families of the victims would like to hear from you.

Yes, most of the victims are indeed Hispanic children. Are you saying they are unworthy of living because they are Hispanic? That our laws were not designed to protect Hispanics?

The relevant point is their murderers are continually being illegally smuggled into our country by everyone who supports illegal immigration and/or sanctuary cities.

How does it feel to be responsible for the deaths of strangers? Even if they are only Hispanic?

I knew a Swede that almost killed a black guy.
Not a lot of Swedes want to leave their socialist utopia. Let's see there are about 10 Million Swedes and nearly 700 Million Hispanics. Now Sweden is about 4,800 miles away and you have to cross the world's second biggest ocean. Hispanics range from immediately next door to 5,500 miles in Buenes Aires although most Hispanics come from about 1,600 miles away and you get to travel on land. Hmm, that's a tough one. Which one is going to send more immigrants. Now Sweden has got a definite Socialist bent to it and Central America is decidedly violent. Hmm, another tough one. Which one would folks most likely leave?
By the way, as usual you have no idea about me other than some wild eyed fantasy that the Trump cult has instilled in you.

These guys represent the worse of the worse and if they are here illegally and are involved in murdering, why would anyone want them here? They should be extradited immediately to their country of ORGIN so tax payers here don't have to pay for their food and lodging. Get them the hell out of here!
Immigrants are welcome in the USA...but not their kind!

SCOTUS tells 9th circuit to STFU about POTUS!

Supreme Court allows Trump asylum restrictions to take effect, ending 9th Circuit injunctions

By Gregg Re, Bill Mears | Fox News

In a major win for the Trump administration, the Supreme Court issued an order late Wednesday ending all injunctions that had blocked the White House's ban on asylum for anyone trying to enter the U.S. by traveling through a third country, such as Mexico, without seeking protection there.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals – long a liberal bastion that has been aggressively reshaped into a more moderate court by the Trump administration – handed the White House a partial victory in the case on Monday by ending the nationwide injunction against the asylum policy. However, the 9th Circuit kept the injunction alive within the territorial boundaries of the circuit, which encompasses California, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, Guam, Oregon and Washington.

The Supreme Court's order was not a final ruling on the policy's merits but does allow the policy to take effect nationwide, including in the 9th Circuit, while the case makes its way through the lower courts.

President Trump tweeted that the ruling was a "BIG United States Supreme Court WIN for the Border on Asylum!" The administration had argued in a brief to the Supreme Court that unless the injunctions were totally lifted everywhere, it “would severely disrupt the orderly administration of an already overburdened asylum system.”

Only Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg dissented.

"Once again the Executive Branch has issued a rule that seeks to upend longstanding practices regarding refugees who seek shelter from persecution," Sotomayor and Ginsburg wrote.

They added that they were disappointed the majority failed to exercise "restraint," and instead intervened in the lower-court matter before it was fully resolved.

The White House, however, said the lower court had overreached in an all-too-familiar manner.

“We are pleased the Supreme Court has ruled our Administration can implement important, needed fixes to the broken asylum system," White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said.

"This greatly helps build on the progress we’ve made addressing the crisis at our southern border and will ultimately make American communities safer," Gidley added. "The district court’s erroneous nationwide injunction was another in a series of overreaching orders that allowed a single, non-elected district court judge to override policy decisions for the entire Nation. While there is much more work still to be done, thankfully the Supreme Court took a decisive step here and rejected the lower court’s egregious ruling.”

The DOJ also said the ruling would "bring order to the crisis at the southern border, close loopholes in our immigration system, and discourage frivolous claims."

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement that a sole judge shouldn't have the ability to exert such a broad impact on immigration policy.

Fox News' Shannon Bream and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

ICE arrests thrice-deported Mexican man wanted for homicide
By Melissa Leon | Fox News

A thrice-deported Mexican man wanted for homicide in Anaheim, Calif., was arrested last week in Houston, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on Monday.

Leopoldo Serrano Vargas was arrested Sept. 11 for illegally reentering the United States after having been deported, officials said. He also goes by the names Leonel Serrano Vargas and Ricardo Hernandez, and is thought to be between 44 and 46 years old.

He is wanted on an outstanding warrant for allegedly murdering Luis Garcia Bucio in October 2000, ICE said.

Serrano Vargas illegally entered the country three times over the course of eight days in late 2006. Authorities deported him back to Mexico on Dec. 12, 14 and 18 that year, according to ICE.

He entered the country illegally a fourth time in 2006 and has remained here since then, officials said.

“For almost two decades, this criminal alien fugitive has gone to tremendous lengths to avoid detection by law enforcement authorities for his alleged crimes in California,” said Patrick Contreras, field office director for ICE Houston.

"Our ICE Fugitive Operations team tracked down and arrested Serrano Vargas, removing a potentially dangerous criminal alien from our community and ensuring that he will face prosecution for his alleged crimes," he stated.

Serrano Vargas will remain in ICE custody in Texas before facing criminal charges in California.
