I think it's got to be up there. I just bought seasons 5 & 6 to complete my collection of all the available DVD's (there were nine seasons, but the final three won't be released until later this fall), and I forgot how incredibly witty the show is, and the most amazing part of it is that the humor hasn't worn off with time. I'm watching these episodes from the early 90's that seem like they were written last week. Anyway, are there any other Seinfeld fans? Anyone got an opinion of the show? Anyone got a favorite episode?
I am a HUGE Seinfeld fan. I don't necessairily like the last 2 or so seasons because the jokes seemed much less witty and the complexions of the characters changed immensely as well. I know a lot of that had to do with Larry David not writing with the team anymore as well as a lack of ideas but the characters we saw in the last season in comparison to when when Seinfeld was in it's prime is unbelieveable. Same can be said about the Simpsons as well (btw, they should just stop while they're ahead they're wrecking thier own legacy). I'm glad Seinfeld as a show knew when to call it quits because even though the show had fallen off in terms of script from its previous years, it was still a very entertaining show. I would easily call it the best sitcom of all time, not just due to the plots, character and the dozens of jokes and trends it created, but also because it revolutionzed the sitcom world and proved that not every sitcom has to be about "something"....we can all watch "nothing" at one point or another and still enjoy it. My favourite episode has to be the pig-man one. Absolutely classic.
I've got Season 1 - 4 on DVD, awesome show, definatley one of my all time favourites. Just to clear somthing up though, Seinfeld began in 1990, so there were no episodes from the 80's, lol. Curb Your Enthusiasm is just as funny I think, I'm a huge Larry David fan. He is a true comical genius.
I wouldn't call it the best, but it's definately up there..me and my family always watch it during dinner haha.
Seinfeld is definitely up there in terms of best sitcom ever. However, the absolute best and most wittiest ever has got to be the Simpsons (during its prime). As good as Seinfeld was, nothing can beat Simpsons seasons 3 to 7. Best Seinfeld episode? That's a REAL tough one. During its prime I would consider almost every single episode a classic. The bet, soup nazi, jerk store, shrinkage, man hands, puffy shirt, Keith Hernandez, B.O., Top of the Muffin..... it's just too damn hard to choose one. And if you like Seinfeld, you should definitely check out Curb Your Enthusiasm. It's not as good as Seinfeld, but it's still extremely funny and uses the same brand of silly observational humor. Not sure if they still show new episodes, but if they do, then it's still the funniest currently running sitcom.

However, I remember one episode in the ninth and final season that was hilarious, 'The Merv Griffin Show'. I could have done without the whole storyline about Jerry's girlfriend's toy collection, but the Kramer scenes with the set from the Merv Griffin Show were priceless, some of their best stuff. 'The Bookstore' was another late-season Seinfeld classic, where the book George takes into the bathroom is "marked". As for all-time favorites, 'The Parking Garage' used to be my favorite, but I've seen it too many times for it to still have the same effect on me. 'The Subway' is great too, especially the scene where Kramer tries to get a seat as the subway doors open and the scene where Jerry talks to the nudist - hilarious stuff.
Yea, the episodes after Larry David left lacked some of the wit and character development that really made that show great early on. It seemed that they relied on wacky premises to make their jokes (eg: the bizarro world episode). They were funny, just not in the same way. As a whole, I love the show. In terms of longevity and hilarity, I rank it up there with the Simpsons (btw, the Simpsons has rebounded this season). I've never really needed to buy the DVD set though, because TNT shows like 4 episodes every day. And my favourite episode is probably the one where they go to India. The way they played that whole show out backwards was just incredible. From the bride's parents' diss on India to Kramer and that big lollipop being obsessed with FDR's "evil eye," I just love that episode. Edit: I also love the episode where George does everything opposite to his own instincts and Jerry realizes that everything in his life ends up "evening out."
Seinfeld is definetly one of my top 3 favs. Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld creates too good of a comic duo. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Curb Your Enthusiasm is just as funny I think, I'm a huge Larry David fan. Its....okay.... I think Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, Robot Chicken, and The Boondocks are 10x funnier.

I actually believe if you took the prime years of the Simpsons and Family Guy, they would be tied. However, Simpsons gets the nod for being on a funnier level longer then that of Family Guy. However, in terms of Sitcoms, I can't think of any that matches up to Seinfeld. And I would say Seinfeld in it's prime is tied with the Simpsons.
