"Unlike the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Ottawa Senators didn't make it any easier for coach Cory Clouston to pick his team for the 2010-11 season.

Clouston didn't have one player who had a bad game in Tuesday's 5-0 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he had a several who played very well, including goalie Robin Lehner, who blanked the Leafs, Chris Campoli, Brian Lee, Zack Smith, Nick Foligno, Chris Kelly, Corey Locke, who had a goal and an assist, and Chris Neil, who had a goal and two assists.

Good first impressions never hurt when there's a tough fight for spots and ice time on the team.

"I don't think there was one guy that I could say I was disappointed in," Clouston said. "I think there were some players who played a little better than others, but, overall, it was a good team effort.

"That's what we want … we want tough decisions. We want guys to make us sit around after the game and debate who played well and who played better, and who deserves another game and maybe who doesn't.

"I thought we got a real good effort from everyone. I thought the veterans played well, and the young guys played very well."

Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson should be so lucky.

He must have been wondering what happened to all of those players hoping to make his NHL team. They weren't exactly bubbling with ambition.

In the first of back-to-back home games against the Senators, they helped get the Toronto season off to a sour start.

Not even the 19,000 free tickets provided by Coca-Cola for its Fan First Game promotion could stop the boos."
