I've got no real beef with El Chacho this year, I just hope he can keep showing a commitment to trying on defense, and keeps improving his shot, he's got the quickness and length to be a decent perimeter defender, and he's definitely showed that he's commited to making his shot at least passable ... I still wonder if he's "35 minutes a night, starter material" but I'm fine with him getting his 15-20.
That's my take as well. If he earns it - I would be delighted - since the flow when he is dishing his crazy assists is so much fun to see. Work on the damn defense and hit a shot like an NBA player (not called Ben Wallace) - and you are gold.
Rodriguez has floor vision that few players in the NBA do... and he's got good size for his position. If his perimeter shooting can improve just to respectability, he's going to be a starting-level NBA point guard, and if he becomes a dangerous outside shooter then he'll be a borderline all-star, irrespective of whether he can guard a chair or not. See: Jose Calderon. Ed O.
Sergio is currently Nash without the jump-shooting or Kidd without the defense (okay, and without the rebounding). He's one tool away from being a tremendous player. Of course, neither going from bad shooter to great shooter or bad defender to great defender is at all likely. As he is now, he'd still make a good backup point guard. He's a classic sparkplug for a second unit.
