I honestly hate to say it, cause I really really like Sergio, but the dude was everything "NOT" Blazers. When I would see him check in for Blake, I would tell myself "Well there goes our flow". To be perfectly honest, Sergio is much better suited on a more "free flowing" offense. Teams willing to take a ton of chances offensively. I just don't think Nate could stomach turn overs, and even though Sergio was dishing out assists, the dude couldn't play a half court set to save his life. Sergio will do well in Sacramento and I wish him all the best. I just personally think he just didn't fit in with Nate's offense.
We didn't have the time, the coach or the inclination to develop Sergio. It's too bad, because he could have been a hell of a player for us.
I was a fan of his game and I really liked watching him play. I just think he was so lost being forced to play half court offense. Just not his style IMO And to be honest, it was hard to watch.
I disagree. I never saw anything that would be considered potential for a "hell of a player". I saw a guy that made flashy passes. He wasn't fast, wasn't that quick. He wasn't athletic. He wasn't strong. He couldn't and wouldn't play a lick of defense. He couldn't shoot. He couldn't finish at the rim. In a half-court set, he over-dribbled and pounded the ball for most of the shot-clock. He turned the ball over a lot. Wasn't good at entry passes. etc, etc.
Okay I 100% agreed on that. I noticed teams letting him drive and play the "kick out" cause he would be blowing lay-ups.
I completely concur. Across the board Sergio did nothing well except got fans excited for his risky style of play.
Yep, and then they'd steal the pass for a fast break the other way. And, it just wasn't at the rim. After about two months in the league, other teams learned Sergio couldn't shoot. So, they would just sag off of him, guard the passing lanes and dare him to shoot. He hasn't been close to an average NBA player since. Define well. If being the back-up PG on the worst team in the league == doing well, then yeah, he'll be great in that role. Or Nate's (or anyone's) defense. BNM
I watched a little bit of Sac's open pracitice. It looked like a bad WNBA game in terms of attendence.
I hope Andre can develop the kind of chemistry Sergio had with Rudy. Serg and Rudy on the court together was a blast to watch.
Well, let's hope he doesn't run to Sacramento and turn into Steve Nash. I hope for him he does. For the blazers, I don't.
I didn't see much "Steve Nash" in Sergio. Not every flashy-passing, no-defense-playing, point guard will turn into Steve Nash. I'm not at all worried about that happening.
I loved watching Sergio when he was on. I hated watching him when he was not - which unfortunately, was most of the time. I hope he succeeds wherever he goes as long as it is not against the Blazers. I doubt very much he has a big future in the league. He was, bar none - our worst regular rotation guy last year (yes, Frye might have been as bad when he touched the ball - but unlike Sergio, he did not dominate it - which limited the damage he inflicted) - so seeing him sent for a 8 spots bump in the 2nd round draft seems like a Pritchslap to me, especially when it seems that Dante has that Landry 2nd round dream-come-true feel to him.
I am glad he's gone, he had no place on our roster. However, he's been among the best assist/min guys in the league. I'm all for trashing the guy for what he can't do (and it's plenty), but we shouldn't pretend he couldn't do anything.
Sergio was an OK player, exciting to have during the regular season here and there, but once it came playoff time, he just is a liability since his game doesn't suit the grind-it-out style in the postseason. I wish him well though, and will cheer for him when he gets introduced tonight.
