Seven Barça Players Up For FIFA Award

FC Barcelona have had seven players nominated on the shortlist for the FIFA World Player of the Year despite not winning a major trophy last term.

The Blaugrana are out in front as the club side with the most players to make it on to the 30-man list, while Real Madrid have just two players up for the award.

Thierry Henry is the only player from Barça who joined the club over the summer, as Lilian Thuram, Rafa Márquez, Deco, Samuel Eto'o, Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho all impressed in the club's colours.

Madrid have Fabio Cannavaro and Ruud Van Nistelrooy included, but the favourite for the honour is AC Milan's Brazilian superstar Kaká.

Only six of the 30 players ply their trade in Serie A, while the Premiership and la Primera provide ten each, three come from the Bundesliga and only Juninho Pernambucano plays in France.

FIFA World Player of the Year nominations:

Gianluigi Buffon (ITA), Fabio Cannavaro (ITA), Petr Cech (CZE), Cristiano Ronaldo (POR), Deco (POR), Didier Drogba (IVO), Michael Essien (GHA), Samuel Eto'o (CAM), Gennaro Gattuso (ITA), Steven Gerrard (ENG), Thierry Henry (FRA), Juninho (BRA), Kaká (BRA), Miroslav Klose (GER), Philipp Lahm (GER), Frank Lampard (ENG), Rafael Márquez (MEX), Lionel Messi (ARG), Alessandro Nesta (ITA), Andrea Pirlo (ITA), Franck Ribéry (FRA), Juan Román Riquelme (ARG), Ronaldinho (BRA), Wayne Rooney (ENG), John Terry (ENG), Carlos Tévez (ARG), Lilian Thuram (FRA), Fernando Torres (SPA), Ruud van Nistelrooy (HOL), Patrick Vieira (FRA).

They were unfortunate to get knocked out of europe by the kings (LFC) and did come runner ups. But there players played exceptionally well.
