<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">At least a half-dozen suitors have expressed interest in Bonzi Wells with a week remaining before the Grizzlies must decide whether to exercise an $8 million contract option on the veteran shooting guard.

The Grizzles have had more than cursory conversations with Boston, Dallas, Washington, Sacramento, Detroit and the Los Angeles Clippers regarding Wells, according to league sources.

It is not known what players are involved, but a source said that two of those teams are serious about acquiring Wells and presented the Griz with sound offers.

It is believed that the Griz dangled Wells in an attempt to pry away Washington center Kwame Brown. The Wizards, though, opted to deal with the Los Angeles Lakers and reportedly agreed to a trade that would swap Brown for Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins.

A Grizzly insider said there was no truth to a report that the Griz discussed sending Lorenzen Wright to Washington for Brown. Wright, disgruntled about the Grizzlies' disregard for his desire to discuss a contract extension, has demanded a trade.

The Griz appear more motivated to move point guard Jason Williams and Wells, and are weighing sign-and-trade offers for Stromile Swift.

The 29-year-old Wells is considered the best guard available now that Ray Allen, Michael Redd, Bobby Simmons, Larry Hughes and Cuttino Mobley have agreed in principle to sign new deals.

Mobley reportedly agreed to a contract with the Clippers, who remain interested in Wells to shore up a guard corps that includes an injured and questionable Kerry Kittles.

Another option for Wells could be Atlanta.

The Hawks, according to a league source, may pursue Wells if Phoenix matches the $70 million offer sheet they tendered to guard Joe Johnson. </div>
