"brian wilsons beard" brings up surprisingly few pics of the beach boys in their hippie heyday recently...

2 years ago, the giants were the laughingstock of baseball. rather, their offense was. their pitching weas the envy of baseball, ooh crap their defense was the laughingstock too...but yes their pitching was quite spectacular. tim lincecum would routinely steal the outfielders women. matt cain had a penchant for relieving himself in the shower while sub replacement level infielders watched and longed to contribute to the release.

the GM of the giants, brian sabean, had a vision. he saw jose guillen as a savior to the offense, but alas, he was jose guillen. he saw cody ross as a way to screw the padres, and alas he was, but not in the premonitioned way, we would lead the giants to the title by brute force, hitting 37 homeruns off of roy halliday. wtf. and yay.

the world series can be won with pitching and timely hitting, the giants always had the former, and received the latter as if by gift from the gods, at the most opportunistic possible time. if i didnt know any better i would say that our gm got lucky. that he lucked into the world series. but no.

how many times must he have been tempted to trade one of our promising pitchers for an offensive upgrade? how many times did he reject some variation of a matt cain for mark reynolds trade? only a few people are privilaged to that information but i would guess ALOT of times.

he proved his worth to the organization by resisting these temptations. the snake from hell slithered up to him with the chance for a legitimate batsman, unly to be turned away. he still eats from the tree of knowledge, he just does it on the downlow.
