For some reason my iPhone wont or me copy and paste otherwise I would add quotes and ish BUT Haynes just tweeted that shabazz and dame have a bond and have talked about playing together. Also had a "great" interview with blazers. How do you guys feel about shabazz on the Zers?
I would love it, don't understand all of the negativity i'm seeing on Twitter and other places. Of course i don't have insane hype for him, just a sixth man and eventual starter kind of hype.
I posted it in the draft thread: Chris Haynes @ChrisBHaynes 33s Prospect G Shabazz Muhammad, #Blazers G Damian Lillard already have a bond, discussed possibilty of playing together http://www.csnnw.com/blog/blazers-ta...g-together-nba …
Unless he has some talents he did not show at UCLA, I would pass. If we draft him, I would imagine the Blazer Brass have a good expectation that he can still be the player hyped out of high school. If we end up with him then I will be hopeful. But, I would rather have someone else. I think he is going to slide big time in the draft.
Will he be there at 10? ESPN draft lotto now things he will be. Im on board if he is the best talent available to us, also hoping either Shabazz or Batum can play the 2 effectively.
People used to say the same stuff about Barnes. I compared Barnes to Martell Webster before the draft last year. oops
One thing I like about Shabazz is he doesn't necessarily need the ball to score. People compare him to Harden, but that's just a lazy comparison because he shoots left-handed. Harden creates his offense while Shabazz doesn't. He doesn't really have that skill set at all. Scary thing is he's not going to be bigger than everyone at the NBA level like he's been his whole life at 6-6 225, so that lack of skill set could hurt him. Not a terrible option at 10, but I'm more interested in hearing abut trade possibilities at this point.
One thing I should caution Olshey about is how he shouldn't draft for need. To an extent, he did exactly that last year.
Here is a list of current UCLA players in the NBA. I think an argument can be made that most of them had talents they did not show at UCLA under Ben Howland. Not a knock on Ben, but his system tended to be rigid. (Plus a few were 1 and done, so it was hard to gauge-like Shabazz) Jrue Holiday, Jason Kapano, Earl Watson, Matt Barnes, Darren Collison, Jordan Farmar, Ryan Hollins, Dan Gadzuric, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Trevor Ariza, Kevin Love, Baron Davis, Arron Afflalo, and Russell Westbrook.
Yeah I read that. They "have a bond" LOL. I personally don't have a "bond" with every individual I've spoken to for 30 minutes, but whatever.
Everybody who writes about him says that he is a scorer who barely acknowledges he has teammates and plays very indifferent defense. What's not to love?
Perhaps, but that's not what he showed at the combine, quite the opposition. I would feel fine about us drafting him, but the backlash would be entertaining/stupid: "Blazers draft player with Tourette's in the lottery!" In case you didn't know: http://dailybruin.com/2013/03/01/no...rder-in-becoming-one-of-nations-best-players/
Hmm: let's look at the scales: on one side, his entire career up to this point. On the other, what he shows at a single showcase where he is trying to overcome a bad rap. I don't think those scales are level. Nobody remembers Chris Jackson/Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf?
That guy calls Carter-Williams "dominant defensively". If that's true, then I want THAT guy. But that's not what I've read elsewhere.
