I seen this morning an interview on television with some new producer that wants to take a stab at bringing out Shadow of the Colossus the film with direction from Peter Jackson of the LOTR films. It would be with rather unknown actors and a very high budget from Paramount. If they can pull off the beauty of this game I would praise them, seriously. If you don't know much of the game in particular I suggest taking a look at this fan-made video of the game using some pretty good tunes. One of the best games, media, whatever you'll ever experience I promise that.

The game was really great to look at, and a great idea, but the gameplay was annoying. The camera was annoying, and so was the controls.

I'm sorry but it would just be another in the long line of crap games to film movie.

Shadow of the Collossus was a great game but its storyline was far below average.

The game is considered the best adventure title of all-time. You must've missed a lot to write that, man. Though I can admit it is a bit much for the kids.

I was reading a wikipedia article on it, while watching the youtube clip. Definitely intrigued me. The only hesitations I would have are around the camera/controls. Also, I wonder if the game would somewhat repetitive/slow with only bosses to fight.

I read the Wikipedia on it, and I don't really think the game would translate that well into the movie format. There's 18 Colossus, so if the movie makers go by the story in the game, its going to get repetitive watching someone fight 18 monsters basically. Not much is involved in between (I think?) other than puzzle kind of thing, which really isn't too entertaining in a movie. BTW, reminds me of ICO.

Well they won't be making it with that many I would believe. That wouldn't work for a film, so it would be different a bit.

I don't find it repetitive. Each Colossi is different. I can't recommend it to everyone though. Anyway this isn't about the game as it is interest over a possible film.

Personally I'd rather see God of War than Shadow of Colossus..that's just me.

That's been underway for quite some time in the writing and direction department. I'd say look for the film to be released in around 3 years tops.

Possibly the best "beat 'em up" game there is. It was total nonsense, but the stuff you could do in there was crazy fun.

God of War had more of a storyline then Shadow of Collossus.

All you did in SoC is find a Collossus, climb him and stick a sword in the weak spot (ok you did a few other things depending on the Collossi) however the only reason that was done was for some chick and some incredibly stupid ending.

There was nothing elborate about it. It maybe the best adventure game but not for its storyline.

Thats a game with a storyline and a chance to actually succeed. I believe Hideo Kojima is involved in it (the guy who does the games). He won't accept any crap.[IMG]

They need to make a Splinter Cell movie as well, they were going too but it seems to have been put on hold.

I really doubt if Peter Jackson were to direct the Shadow of the Colossus film that it would actually be bad. We don't actually know anything of it so that's really just your opinion of the game for the film outcome is all. Without much reason behind it nor can you explain other then writing down how you didn't like the game's storyline. You don't like the game, that's great. You're entitled to your opinion that you didn't care for the game. However, you're a bit too judgmental for a decent conversation about this subject and way too "fanboyish" and acting like an elitist at the moment. For instance ..

How can you know if there isn't even a script for it yet? Judging first before the knowledge. There is no other information for it right now. There's a difference between hopes of Metroid and other games to films being good when they have poor direction and a pathetic writing team and for those that have the goods.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Thats a game with a storyline and a chance to actually succeed.</div>

Once again you?re judging before any information of any kind or any knowledge of the script which doesn't even exist yet. However, I will agree that MGS the film is likely to be a good one because of the creator having every word as to how it will be done.

Anyway as I've mentioned, it is a bit too out of the ordinary for the kids and those that like the typical stuff coming out and definitely not for everyone. I would rent it first. A buddy of mine didn't understand it either and found it to be too odd for his interests. I actually found that some of the most exciting parts of that game were simply finding the Colossi where you have to travel far and wide to get to the location. There was so much to do and think of when making your move, especially around cliffs and other big drops. I think the game would've been even better if it would've been with two players involved. I don't mean it in the cheap way either, where the main character is focused on and the second one is just there after a cut scene and will never speak, you know? Most games do that these days anyway, even the top rated ones, which leaves me to wonder why they're rated so high to begin with.

Well I'm excited about the possibility of the film with Peter Jackson at the direction front. He always does a great job with films that require a lot of focus on scenery and imagination. I would suspect a similar direction to how he focused on everything in the LOTR series.

first of all, get off your high horse.

second of all, I actually liked Shadow of the Collosus, but it had no storyline.
The game was this: some chick is laid on a slab of concrete, some other god like thing talked to you in some language, you ride your horse to where ever he tells you too and find the Collosus. Climb about the Collosus and stick your sword in its weak spot. Once dead you get hit by those black things and your back in that stone building. And you do that twenty times.
The only difference is the challenge of defeating the Collosi.

    Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Easy. The game had no storyline so the movie would have to make up its own if they want it to be interesting instead of 2 hours of the same thing.

Thus it will be another movie with the name to prostitute it around (much like Resident Evil)

Not judging, merely pointing out it has a chance because it has a great storyline. It's elborate, complex and well thought out. With the creator at the helm of the movie it shouldn't deviate too much.

    He's producing Halo isn't he?
