New Jersey? Conceivably. A deal involving Kenyon Martin (via sign and trade), Kerry Kittles ($10.2 million next season), Rodney Rogers ($3.35 million), the contract of Alonzo Mourning (still on the Nets' books at $5.4 million) and the rights to incoming Euro big Nenad Krstic would get you in the neighborhood of Shaq's contract. I would assume Jersey would want a young shooter like Kareem Rush to be part of the deal, too. Bonus for the Lakers: Rogers and Kittles are entering the final year of their respective deals, and Mourning would come off the ledger after next summer if he doesn't play again. The Lakers would get two talented young bigs in Martin and Krstic. The Nets would add Shaq -- who has lots of family in Newark -- along with a quality shooter in Rush, while retaining a good chunk of their core: Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson, Jason Collins, Lucious Harris and Aaron Williams. You'd think the Diesel would also sell some tickets, but I thought the high-flying Kidd Show would, too.

Now, do I believe in any of these scenarios? If you pushed me, I guess the Nets and Memphis make the most sense. If you have a dollar, though, you might still bet it on Shaq's temper to ultimately subside, and a new coach being able to assure the Big Man he still has a seat at the table. Money is still important and O'Neal has been adamant that he won't take a pay cut when his deal is up in two years. This is the Lakers' challenge. They have to find a way to buy some time while keeping Shaq engaged ... and not enraged.

    My Comments:
What do you guys think would this work. It seems decent and we dont have to give give up our draft pick it would slow us down having shaq and no power forward.

1st off, let me be the 1st to say no thank you. Ive been a Nets fan for about 14 years. And a hard core fan for about the last 8 or 9 years. So I have suffered thru the losing years & the years where we have come so close to getting a championship(last 2 or 3 years) so Iam ready for a championship just as much as everybody else. But I dont want it if it means hoping on Shaq's back to get it. I rather see it done thru a team concept with the Nets overall putting together an unbeivable, unforgetable season.

If we do it with Shaq on our team all people are going to remember is that we couldnt get it done the few seasons before w got shaq. But then as soon as we get shaq we win it all. That would mean its Shaq's championship not the Nets. No Thank you.

Plus giving up so much for a guy that is past his prime. I dont know about that, Yeah I know Kittles & Rogers & Zo contract do seem like much to the naked eye. But those were surpose to be trade bait to get younger parts to keep us a championship contender for many years, not just 1 maybe 2 with Shaq. So we win a championship next(if the Pistons or somebody doesnt limit shaq & knock us out), & then we go right back into rebuilding stage. But unlike our rebuilding stages before we probably wont get the high draft picks to land a Van Horn or a Martin, so we maybe strapped for years to come after the shaq era or season .

And on a personal note, No Way do I want to see K-Mart leave for Shaq.

But anyway the deals seems non-logical, Bruce Ratner is looking to cut cost, so why would he pay shaq the kind of exstension Shaq is askng for, which means Shaq would only play fo the Nets for 1 season. You let your future go for a guy to play one season & maybe win a chip. Rob thorn is much smarter than that. Its not like Shaq will be profitable to the Nets if they move to the NYC in 2007. People arent going to be running around trying to get tickets to see Shaq in 2007 if he would stay with the Nets. By that time he wont be Shaq, he'll be Tree Rollins, when he was on the magic or Oliver Miller or somebody.

But since every team is making an offer to the Lakers for Shaq, I guess we can make one too. I say we offer JC, Rodney Rogers & a thank you card for Mitch Kupcheck, if they dont exept our offer, so what.

But seriously, If Shaq has to win our championship I honestly dont want it, thats just my opinion.

That are some good words right there. I would like to keep martin here and but i would like to get rid of some players. IE the players that were mentioned Kittles, Rogers, and Zo's contract. Just on another note how do you think Kidd felt when alonzo couldnt play cause of his situation. Being that he didn't want to sign with us unless we had a big man. Now we keep martin and no big man. or any relevant moves to make this team any better from last year (keep in mind it is still early in the summer). Do you think he feels he made a mistake signing with us rather then the Spurs (Being that they have a big man) or the Mavs (being that he would be surrounded by so man shooters from the starters to the bench)? I feel he will be very unhappy if moves aren't made this off season. Even though never really complained when he was with the Suns but he was younger then.

If that trade ever happened, good luck dealing with Shaq's laziness and his inability to play a full 82 games faking injuries. And there is absolutely no way Kareem Rush is a starting shooting guard in this league. He still needs more time to develop.

I would loved to see SAR come to the Nets maybe he would have gained some motivation playing with the likes of Martin, Jefferson and Kidd.

I dont think I would do this trade if I were the Nets GM.Even if Shaq gives the Nets a couple of championships,he will retire and than the Nets will have nothing in the front court but if the Nets get a player like SAR than they could have a more promosing future with K-Mart and SAR.

Not exactly...Shaq has a huge, huge, contract. If he left, there would a lot of salary cap relief for the Nets to go for a free agent, when that time comes. If the Nets wait for Shaq's current contract to run out, a certain other big name center, named Yao Ming will be avaiable to negotiate for a new contract. There's a lot that can happen.

Personally, I don't like the trade, though Shaq is originally from New Jersey. I rather see the Nets in title contention for the next 5 years rather than winning a title one year and it be all said and done.

i dont like this either. in two years or whevern shaq's contract runs out and he wants to come home and play here and we get him in FA that is fine, but kmart for shaq isn't a smart move. i don't think there is really any way this can happen. this was just mentioned b/c shaq is from new jersey and b/c of the kmart contract situation. i dont even like that we would have to give nenad up. we need to keep kmart/rj/kidd together as long as possibly b/c that is a good core. i dont mind making a bit for shaq, but not that bid.

Go check out some other threads in the rumor mill or Orlando's forum. Tracy McGrady is most likely headed to Houston and it will probably be announced tomorrow.

When I first saw the title, I said "WHOA!". Who wouldn't be excited in getting the MDE? But then I realized that KMart is the only probable trade option. No thanks.

Gotta agree with you there....why give up someone with such skill, potential, emotion and ability. His athleticism isn't needed for comparison, much better work ethic as well. Not to mention he's a lot more fun to watch, I think Shaq would slightly reduce the fanbase.

Some things would be solved however, the lack of size and power amongst our C's and team in general. However you have a team mentality, so bringing him in would complicate things. Triangle? No thanks. I'd take oops to K-Mart and RJ any day over that.
