<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">May 6, 2005 -- WE KNOW Shaquille O'Neal's a primetime TV star and he may be the biggest kid on the block, but when does the NBA give him a time out? When is he sent to his room for a little sensitivity training? Or ordered to sacrifice a tiny piece ? say $25,000 ? of his weekly allowance? O'Neal was at it again, Sunday, making with some low-brow women-bashing, openly saying that Lawrence Frank's complaints about him getting away with fouls qualified the Net coach to "change his name to Laura Frank." My older daughter's name is Laura, but unlike the NBA, she wouldn't have allowed O'Neal to escape with such a misogynistic, old-school (grammar-school) put-down. And it's not as if this is anything new from sugar-Shaq. He has been given to calling the Sacramento Kings the "Queens." What's more, two years ago, O'Neal got away with similar childish bigotry when, after he was asked what he might say to Yao Ming, he made with some Chinese-sounding gibberish. It was an insensitive and antiquated response that he apparently found as hip and as clever as ordering flied lice. But, having insulted more than half the world's population ? women and Chinese ? the NBA gives him a look-away pass. It's not, after all, as if he criticized an NBA referee. </div> Source I posted this in here, because it related to Shaq calling Frank ... 'Laura.'
Honestly, I chuckled when he said that at the end of the game, Shaq is a funny dude. And none of his comments are meant to bash any type of race or sexual prefence etc... He just isnt that type of dude. He was just having fun with Coach cause we complained through the media after game 3 like that was going to help. Anyway, they gave us the business. And its time for the local papers to get over it. And lets move on... Does Shaq get away with saying things 99% of the league doesnt? Yes, but you have to factor in that 99% of the league doesnt carry the NBA ratings on their back either, so its no shock David Stern loosens the rules a bit for the big fella.
Shaq is one of the most funniest guys in the league. Anyway, just like Henacy said, it wasn't meant to be offensive in anyway to women. If only he spent half of the time practicing freethrows than he does running his mouth...
When Shaq says those "insensitve" comments I gain more respect for him. Not nessarily because of his humor, but because society today has become way too concerned about being tolerant of everyone and everything...anyway, I thought his comment of LF, was kinda funny, it is kinda weak and lady-like to say that someone has an advantage because he gets away with fouls...however, I do agree with LF, so I guess that makes me a lady .
I'm glad that you guys have common sense. Whoever takes Shaq seriously when he makes these comments must be a little slow. He adds humour to the game, and I think he is damn funny. Lawrence Frank is a quality coach though, he seemed to bring the team into cohesion fairly nicely in a short period of time. Kidd probably also was a key factor too. I've always wondered if Shaq pretended to be a bad foul shooter, so in clutch situations he'd make them or if he was really that bad. I've heard that he hates having a weakness and that somedays he spends hours on free-throw shooting.
