<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LOS ANGELES -- Shaquille O'Neal says he wants to come back to Orlando -- this time as owner of the Magic. O'Neal said Saturday prior to the Western Conference's NBA All-Star practice that he has thought informally about some day putting together a group to purchase the Magic from owner Rich DeVos. "I think when I'm done playing I could be one of the powers that be in Orlando that could put together a group that could guarantee to keep the team there," said O'Neal, who owns a 64,000-square-foot mansion in southwest Orlando. "One, I live there and if I'm going to continue to be in the basketball business I want to have the team in my hometown. I don't want to be like (Magic Chief Operating Officer) Bob (Vander Weide) living in Michigan going back and forth. I know some guys -- Michael Eisner wants to buy a team, Wal-Mart wants to buy a team. We'll do that and then go to the mayor and if they won't give us the money to buy an arena, Wal-Mart will build it for us. It's something I've thought a lot about." </div> More here.
It would be much better if he bought the team and Tmac stayed rather than Tmac leaving to go play with him in LA.

yeah plus, shaq is tmac's best friend in the L... it's perfect fit... (and kobe may someday want to own the 76ers)
lol..anyways , The only thing I was worry about is that he wanted to buy the team and move it...But I really like how this sounds. I think he could make a difference , after all DeVos is a Hockey guy...I think it'll be awesome to have Shaq as the owner..he said he will help players to understand things.I'm sure we'll have a new Head Coach and GM and stuff like that...hopefully this article might calm T-Mac and he'll stay with the Orlando Magic forever .
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TMac_OwNz:</div><div class="quote_post"> hopefully this article might calm T-Mac and he'll stay with the Orlando Magic forever .</div> Yeah hopefully. But with the way we've played this season I don't think he'll last forever. We have to rebuild and have an awsome season next year to make McGrady forget about all this retiring and leaving Orlando stuff.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting sportsrock37:</div><div class="quote_post">It would be much better if he bought the team and Tmac stayed rather than Tmac leaving to go play with him in LA.</div> If T-Mac is happy staying 7 years in Orlando waiting for Shaq to retire. I doubt he'll be there if Shaq comes to own the team after his career is over.
Shaq said he'll be out in like 3 - 4 years...plus he also said whenever the Magic are on sale again he will be the first one trying to buy it..Meaning it could be next year and he would still be playing.
Didn't know about all that, I could have sworn in the off-season he made it clear that he was going to try and play 7 more years. Guess I heard wrong.

I dont know a whole lot about how he got injured and what happened to him with his injurys.. But if i was him getting injured every year, Id retire sooner than 7 too...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Ravenous:</div><div class="quote_post">IS there an actual rule saying that a player cant buy a franchise?</div> I don't believe so, but if a player owned a franchise and played for another team, there would definitely be a conflict of interest. Even if Shaq wants to buy the Magic and has the money, that doesn't necessarily mean the NBA will actually approve of the sale. Shaq would definitely be an animated owner though, he may even take the title away from Mark Cuban .
