"It was one of those plays where everything that could go wrong did.

And as a result, the Sharks' flight home from Sweden immediately after Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss Saturday to the Columbus Blue Jackets probably seemed a lot longer than it would have if San Jose had swept the two-game series at Ericsson Globe Arena.

"I couldn't believe it went in," goalie Antero Niittymaki said of the shot by veteran Ethan Moreau at 1:56 of the overtime period. "I thought it hit my glove pretty well, and it went over the net, but obviously it didn't."

Moreau's 32-foot wrist shot ended a game in which Joe Thornton scored his second goal since being named captain and Devin Setoguchi added his first of the season, both on power plays. Columbus got its scoring in regulation from its own captain, Rick Nash, and Kristian Huselius, one of five Swedes on the ice for both teams.

In fact, it was another Swede who started the play that led to Moreau's goal when Samuel Pahlsson forced Dany Heatley to cough up the puck along the side boards as he attempted to enter the offensive zone.

"Four-on-four, I'm thinking we've got to keep possession. I've got to make the safe play and get it in, and it cost us the game," Heatley said. "I thought I could kind of get it by both of them and one-hand it in there."

Even that wasn't the only other problem on the play. Defenseman Jason Demers had jumped up into the offense, leaving Kent Huskins as the lone defender back, and he couldn't slow down Moreau."
