http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2345946Sheffield has back spasms; Pavano headed to DL?Associated Pressclick thisTAMPA, Fla. -- New York Yankees starter Carl Pavano's sore back could land him on the disabled list to start the season."I'm not banking on him Opening Day,'' Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "There's no rush even right there to have him ready Opening Day. The thing I think is important is he probably feels better than he did anytime last year."Pavano missed the second half of last season because of a shoulder injury and finished 4-6 with a 4.77 ERA in 17 starts. His back has bothered him since spring training last year."It's progressing," Pavano said. "It feels a lot better. I want to make sure there's no setbacks after what I went through last year."Right fielder Gary Sheffield is also having back problems. He didn't work out Sunday because of back spasms.Sheffield is not expected to miss more than a couple days. The back flared up after he took extra batting practice on Saturday."I took more swings than usual," Sheffield said. "I've had this before. This is what you get when you over do it too early. It's just real tight. It will be fine."Likely Opening Day starter Randy Johnson threw 68 pitches in his second batting practice session, breaking the bat of new center fielder Johnny Damon."I'm throwing everything that I throw right now," Johnson said. "The more I throw it, the more effective it will be. I feel like I'm in pretty good shape."Johnson could make his spring training debut Friday or Saturday.Torre has been impressed with left-hander Al Leiter, who opted not to retire during the offseason and is in camp as a non-roster player."What I've seen so far, I like him," Torre said. "When you look at it, there's no room. But if somebody makes a case, you've got to figure something out. That's the way I look at it."

We are amazing. I mean c'mon..you guys haven't won a WS since 2000! That's sad. (Did anyone see that piece on sportscenter this past summer that Kenny Mayne hosted? The one where he was talking about how the Yanks haven't won since 2000 and he was interviewing the lil' 4-5 year old and the kid said "c'mon, I've been alive for 4-5 years now, and I STILL haven't seen a title". LOL, It was hilarious)

what? im not supposed to want my team to win?? I can still get pissed off if they lose... face it: anyone who bashes the Yankees is jealous... you wish your team had 26 World championships. You wish your team had the most passionate owner in the history of baseball. You wish. The yankees are the Duke, the Lakers, the Packers. The best franchise and everyone hates us because we are succesful.

i agree, Steinbrenner is an asshole, but he loves his team...and is the greatest owner in baseball history, possibly all of sports

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Brooksie5 @ Mar 4 2006, 06:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Nah. just the richest owner ever.</div>Actually, hes only in the middle of the pack when it comes to money of owners.Like for the longest time, the Anaheim Angels wouldnt spend money even though they are owned by Disney (Who we all know have money), although in recent years they have decided to start spending money.Steinbrenner just uses the most of it into his team.

ADropOfVenom is right (New yorkers alwys are), Steinbrenner just puts a MUCH higer percentage of his money in to his teamThink about it like this:if any other team besdies the yankees, mets and maybe red sox COMPLETELY FAILED (lost all money) their owners would still be richIf the Yankees failed, then Steinbrenner would lose a SIGNIFICANT amount of his money because he invests so much time and money in to it
