The Cardinals' top prospect, pitcher Shelby Miller, will be promoted to Class AA Springfield next week and join their rotation in time for his next scheduled starter.

Miller was among the first to announce the promotion when he took to his Twitter feed (@ShelbyMiller19) this afternoon and wrote: "Headed to Springfield!"

The righthander, who the Cardinals selected in the first round of the 2009 draft, is coming off a regular season-high 12 strikeouts in his final start for High-A Palm Beach. He leaves the Cardinals' top Class A affiliate after going 2-3 with a 2.89 ERA in nine starts. Miller struck out 81 in his 53 innings at the level, and his total strikeouts led all Florida State League pitchers.

He'll jump from the six-man rotation at Palm Beach to a more traditional five-man rotation in Springfield.
