Prospective Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra has spoken to Sven Goran Eriksson regarding the manager's job. Shinawatra is closing in on his takeover of the Premier League club after having an ?81.6million offer accepted by the City board. Among his first tasks upon completion of the deal will be to appoint a managerial successor to Stuart Pearce, who left at the end of last season. Several names have been linked with the post, but former England coach Eriksson has been strongly tipped to take on the role in recent days. Eriksson's agent Athole Still claimed on Wednesday that no meeting had taken place between the Swede and the former Thailand Prime Minister. But Shinawatra has told Sky Sports News that he met with the ex-Lazio coach last week, with a view to possibly becoming City's next boss. Shinawatra also revealed his hope that he will be able to name the club's new manager by the end of next week. "That is one of the names that my advisor told me," Shinawatra exclusively told Sky Sports News. "He's got a very good reputation, he's a very capable coach. "Yes, I met him once, last week. I also have my advisor talk to him to touch base on it. I did not talk to him that long." Regarding whether Eriksson would be the new City manager, he continued: "I am very new to the Premier League. I will let the professional decide and, if they give me all the analysis and tell me that this is the one they prefer, I normally follow the recommendation. "Nobody is perfect. As long as he can do the job, and he likes the job and he fits for it, and my advisor says this is the man, I'll support it. "I cannot say anything yet until next week. After we have more than 75 per cent (of the shares) I can decide many important issues."
