Report: Giants trade Shockey to Saints Monday, July 21, 2008 02:29 PM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The New York Giants apparently have rid themselves of disgruntled tight end Jeremy Shockey. Thoughts are....its a talent downgrade for the Giants. OTOH, Eli didn't need Shockey in the playoffs, Boss looked solid, and if it gives Eli more confidence in the huddle, its a smart move by the Giants. Gives Sean Payton a new weapon too, which I generally hate.
Personally, I'm really going to miss watching him yell at Eli when a perfectly thrown pass hits him on the hands and then he drops it. Oh the memories.
I guess the offer was still on the table all along. Kind of a shock. Now I'm not sure what to do with my Shockey jersey. He was an awesome player to watch for year, but he acted like a real asshat for the past year and a half. Jerry Reese is friggin' awesome though. Look at the value he got for a disgruntled player coming off a serious injury. To put it in perspective, the Dolphins only could get a 2nd and 6th round pick for Jason Taylor (who is on a whole 'nother level).
This looks great for NOLA. The Giants really don't lose much considering how they played without him down the stretch.
Difference is, Taylor is a 34 year old.....who now has questions about his level of commitment to football. The Giants got a helluva deal. I am not taking anything away from that. But there is a reason Taylor "only" fetched a 2nd round +6th round pick, from in all liklihood, an inferior team.
Now everyone can stop worrying about how the Giants are going to be poisoned by Shockey's attitude. One less distraction.
I remember at one point the rumours had the Saints sending the same package with Roman Harper in place of the 2nd rounder. Does anybody have enough knowledge about Harper to tell me if our current deal is better than that one?

I have it on a good source of a friend who knows a guy who dated this girl who was a friend of this guy who played poker against the janitor once.... let's just say the janitor is undermining Eli's confidence in running the team.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The move comes one day after Jason Taylor was traded from Miami to New York's NFC East rivals in Washington. According to a report on SI.com, the Giants had held discussions about a three-team trade in which they would have ended up with Taylor, the Saints would have landed Shockey and the Dolphins would have received a pair of draft picks.</div> <div align="center">Source: FOX Sports</div> Interesting.
Brees gets a vertical TE target to pair up with Colston.... they have the ever dynamic receiving threat in Bush (curious to see if he progresses this year as a runner). Henderson is ok; Meachem was disappointing but has potential...... It will be interesting to see. Orleans has offensive firepower and Payton is creative.
I called that the Giants wanted Taylor. The Dolphins just wanted picks, not Shockey. It's solid move, but I still think the Giants have too many fat and happy champions and not enough hungry guys with something to prove. Now they have one less of those.

It's interesting that the Dolphins think the Saints' picks will be worth less than the Redskins' picks.

What I think is interesting is; Peter King thinks the skins got the better of Parcells & co.
Taylor said he'll play out the last two years of his contract but his future after that is not certain. He was prepared to retire with Miami after one season as well.

The Phins get two draft picks for a wannabe dancer, old NFL player. The Redskins are in a division with Dallas, NY, and Philly. I don't like their chances of making a playoff run against those teams, and nevermind the fact that they have replaced Joe Gibbs with Jim Zorn. Jason Taylor will not make a difference for them before he finally retires from football. How many years do they expect to get out of JT? Moving to Washington will likely accelerate JT's retirement plans, why would anyone want to work there when they have spent so many years in a city like Miami? Washington's plan is doomed to fail.
