Something I have never understood about football is how on earth do players get paid more than their gaffer?? How many of us get paid more than our Manager / Boss? Surely something is wrong, yes I know the players do the most and they are the reason people attend the games etc, but like wise in the real world its the employee which deals with the Customer Face to Face and completes whats required. IMOA Managers should be paid more for what is classed as the most stressfull job in terms of football.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Ben:</div><div class="quote_post">IMOA Managers should be paid more for what is classed as the most stressfull job in terms of football.</div>Football was invented so you could play it! the footballers are more talented and its mostly down to the players to do the business on the pitch. Thats like saying the refs and linesman should get more money or sumthing.
Footballers are less like employees and more like assets. Some top players are companies within themselves who are contracted to a club (bit like agreing that parcelforce will deliver all you business mail for 3 years, poor example but I hope you get my drift) Thats why they get paid more. Its just a manager of one company (the footballer) being paid more than another (the club manager). Hope this makes sense?
Good comment Frank, and I agree. Essentially, the highest paid footballers are assetts or marketing tools. A classic example of this is David Beckham. If a club can make money off the back of the players name, whilst giving him what by comparison is a standard fee, then they won't hesitate to do so. Look at Beckham's marketing potential for Adidas accross the Far East and the America's.
I may be wrong but I think that in the lower divisions this will be the case won't it. But like it says above a lot of the big name players are assets and they get the "bums on seats" so thats why they earn vast amounts(not that I agree). Put it this way I'd rather pay to watch 22 players kick a ball about than listen to 22 managers having a chat.
