90% of workers in this country don't get tested for pot and other drugs, should NFL players be any different.
I have friends that are in grad school, and they blow weed almost everyday. If it slows you down from what you're suppose to be doing, then you should'nt smoke. But if you can do it responsibly, then there should be no problem. Ricky's case, obviously he just did'nt want to play football anymore, he's always been a little wierd. He rather take his money and get high. Don't blame him. I wish i had that luxury. Answer to your question. If it is slowing players down, and they're making bad deciscions, then they should be tested, but if you can smoke and do what you do with out any problem. Shit, more power to ya. NO. Other drugs yes.
The problem is, people who are high sometimes believe that it doesn't slow them down, but it really does. That's not the real issue. The problem here is that the NFL has a responsibility to their impressionable fans, especially kids. To learn that Ricky Williams is a pothead could be a bad influence on kids. Because NFL players have a higher public responsibility, I think it is ok to do mandatory drug testing. Then again, I think we should also test our politicians.
I think we should test everyone. I.E. everyone has to take blood test to start car, or when they go to work upon entrance, etc. That way if someone tests positive we can send them to a separate part of the state. So we would have a small area for the junkies where they can do what they want, but they can not leave and head back to regular civilization without passing testing for 6 months straight..
I think the test are more looking for steroids, and if they catch pot or coke, o well, they dont announce it if they are even willing to acknowledge it, i mean how many of us knew Ricky failed 3 tests, all i heard about was 1 and that was last month
Pot is an illegal substance....its well within an orginazations right to require that its members abide by the laws of the nation in which it has been established....heres a better rule than the one they have now: Fail a drug test and you are banned for life with no chance on appeal....its time we start holding people accountable for thier actions....you make choices, and you LIVE with them!....as far as society goes, a friend of mine had a fantastic idea: legalize all drugs, but require a license to use them....in order to get the license you must take a course that educates you on the dangers of drugs, and waive your right to operate any motor vehicle....so its a choice, drug licences or a drivers licence....anyone cuaght using drugs with a drivers licence or driving with drug license get a mandatory 10 year vacation in a federal pen, NO EXCEPTIONS....random drug tests become illegal, but scheduled ones are not, and anyone with a drug license is not subject to any testing, the assumption being theres no need to test them, they are on drugs....all companies have the right to withhold employment from anyone with a drug license....

RW is being held accountable for his actions and he's apparently cool with all that. Remember, the NFL is a private business, not government and is driven by money. What? More government? Don't we have enough already? I think so. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (TheBeef)</div><div class='quotemain'> as far as society goes, a friend of mine had a fantastic idea: legalize all drugs, but require a license to use them....in order to get the license you must take a course that educates you on the dangers of drugs, and waive your right to operate any motor vehicle....so its a choice, drug licences or a drivers licence....anyone cuaght using drugs with a drivers licence or driving with drug license get a mandatory 10 year vacation in a federal pen, NO EXCEPTIONS....random drug tests become illegal, but scheduled ones are not, and anyone with a drug license is not subject to any testing, the assumption being theres no need to test them, they are on drugs....all companies have the right to withhold employment from anyone with a drug license....</div> Speaking toward the author of that idea: OK, Stalin. This is America. Remember that. The human body carries trace amounts of many chemicals/minerals all the time. It doesn't mean that that person is currently under the inhibitive influence of that substance or putting anyone but himself in danger. Finding the minute parts-per-million of a specific substance within his urine doesn't mean that he endangered someone while under the influence. Don't get me wrong, there are certain professions that I think should have mandatory drug testing. Airline pilots, Exxon Valdez ship captains, train conductors, etc. should all be drug tested. I can think of a million service industry, software development, or other non-lethal professions that don't need drug testing. So long as you are making the company lots of money, they shouldn't (and often don't) really care what you put into your own body during your own free time. In some cases, it would be a bad business decision to drug test employees because then entire groups would just retire, quit, or go work for a competitor who isn't such an asshole....forcing the company to scramble to try to replace them *and still make their deadlines*. I don't know what you guys do for a living, but I have seen this type of backlash occur, and there are no unions involved or anything like that. The NFL, however, is quite a different company from any that we've ever seen. Laws that attempt to protect adults from their own actions just suck anyway. We need less government intrusion into our personal lives, not more.
The beauty of the system is that it doenst stop you from ruining your life with drugs, it stops you from ruining someone elses, by restricting your privlegdes that are dangerous under the influence like driving....
