I've grown tired of him..His performance in this playoffs has been mediocre at best. I dont see the Mavs winning a championship with him as the #1 option on the floor. Though he seems to improve on his game every season, I doubt if he will reach the elite super-star status ala Duncan or Garnett. He does not handle well in pressure and his defensive lapses are way too many for the team to handle.

    I see 2 options

    1. Keep Nowitzki, Get a star guard (Ray Allen/ Micheal Redd) to complement him and can demand the ball in and perform in clutch situations

    2. Trade Nowitzki and Finley this off season for a super star forward (KG would be great!)

I think of Dirk as a superstar like Garnett. I just wish he would not whine and complain about fouls so much when he pushes off every time. But I do agree he does not play defense and Dallas will not get much further with him. On the otherhand, he got them where they are today...

i dont see the problem in dirk. i see the problem in finely, who is getting older and doesnt shoot as well. i think if dallas can replace finely with a good 3pt shooter (michael redd?) and get someone more consistent in the middle (marcus camby...instead of damp) then we would have a more legit chance.

What the hell is this? Dirk gave you his best year yet, led the team to the second round of the playoffs and still within striking shot of the WCF against all odds, and now you lose confidence in him just because great defense and a shooting slump affects his performance for about 10 games? Sorry to say but no no. [IMG]

Trading Finley won't be too smart as well IMO, because his trade value has gone down a lot in the past two seasons, and with his large contract, there's reason to believe Dallas would be ripped off if they indeed did trade Mike Finley. If I were Donn Nelson I would keep Finley and get what he can give me, then take his money to sign someone else after his contract runs out.

It would be terrible to trade dirk for the Mavs. He was top five in the MVP balloting, so who are you gonna get that will take his place? He has the best season of his career and this is even being considered??

No, the Mavs shouldn't trade Dirk. The Mavericks are currently in the second round, and Dirk Nowitzki was a huge part of getting the Mavericks to there. Dirk is one of the best in the league at both scoring and rebounding. He can hit the 3, is versatile, and he's a 7 footer who can play more than one position. He's one of the top players in the NBA today, and the Mavs should not trade him.

I don`t see Dirk as a problem at all. He may seem like a 50/50 kind of player but like it was said earlier, if it wasn`t for Dirk, they wouldn`t be where they are today. Its just the team thats slowing everything down. Plus Nowitzki is just too valuable. When do you get a 7`0 shooter who can sink one on any part of the court? Also, as long as Cuban is around, I don`t Diggler going anywhere. Cuban once said he has the best shooting stroke in the NBA and the two are like lovers [IMG]

Don't trade Dirk. He's still young, and like you say he improves year to year. He needs to really work on his defense and his post game. But he's easily the third best PF in the league, and I'd say he's one of the top 8 players overall. He just needs to learn how to take advantage of his size more, and he'll be unstoppable.

Dirk has improved a part of his game every year, and he had his best year of the regular season this year.

I agree that his play of late has been inconsistent, but I'm not ready to give up on the guy. As long as he keeps improving, then so will the chances of the Mavs towards winning a championship.

Trade Dirk? The only reasonable reason to do that would have been last year for Shaq (imagine Nash and Shaq together). Otherwise, no way. Who are you going to get for him? Some semi-players like Pau Gasol, Peja, or Paul Pierce? No way.
