Yes the Lakers record isn't perfect but the fact is there in a position right now that they were not in last season without him on the sidelines. I think Phil Jackson should be a candidate because imo he has done such a great job coaching this team this year and because of it they picked up many very impressive wins over teams such as Dallas, San Antonio, Miami, Detroit and others so what do you think? Yes I know there are other coaches out there that may be more deserving of winning the actual award but Im just saying he should be a Candidate for his hard work and dedication he had to bringing this team back to the post season. What do you think?

Making lamar odom play to his potential deseres coty  He surely is a candidate. He's system is what is making kobe drop 35, his system brough back defense that we needed. We have less talent than last season and are probably back to post season. Look at the lakers roster and i think you have answer.

He should be but he shouldn't win. This team is a lot like the 2002 and 2003 Magic with one superstar and a rough cast and a record around .500. Doc didn't win those two years I don't see why Jackson should win this year.

I say yes, but only if the Lakers make a significant climb in the playoff race. But as of now, hell no.

If they get 6th I would say he's a definite contender, but could still be without 6th.

This is ridicoulous. Yeah, he's done a good job turning the team around but look at the other coaches this year. Avery Johnson or Flip Saunders will most likely win this award. Avery has done a great job with making the Mavs a better defensive team and making them the third best team in the NBA, and Flip has made the Pistons the best NBA team and helped make them better offensively. Also, Gregg Poppovich will be up there, and maybe Mike D'Toni. Zen master is great but unlikely to win the award.

Why be a candidate if there's no way he would win the award...

No one on TNT or ESPN or NBA.com has even mentioned him for the award.

Candidate: Someone with a solid chance and who is deserving of an awardPhil Jackson over Flip Saunders? Phil Jackson over Avery Johnson? Over Mike D'Antoni? Heck I wouldn't take him over Jerry Sloan.

The only way Byron Scott will deserve it is if he can get his team into the playoffs and right now there out of it.

Let' seePhil took a CBS team minus Kobe and odom and is leading them to a 7th possiby 6th seed. Rudy/hamblen had a more talented squad and lead them to a 34 wins.Just look at the lineup and bench and then explain to me how the hell are they in the playoffs in the west? Considering everyone thought the lakers would be in the lottery once again.

They won't give it to Phil though. That's the thing. Yeah I think he's up there when it comes to who gets the award, but he won't. Unless we win out and some how get a even higher seed.

And that was when Kobe's numbers weren't even as high...The award is going to either...-Flip Saunders-Gregg Poppovich-Avery JohnsonFlip has the case of making his Pistons fired up on offense. Their offense used to work out so that no matter what would happen, the same player in the play would always shoot it. Now, they take those plays, but anybody has rights of shooting.Pop has been the same old coach. Everybody criticised his offense all of the time, but the Spurs are still looking like repeat contenders! He's just the guy that's always expected to do a lot, but doesn't get rewarded for it.The Mavericks lost Steve Nash and Michael Finley, and are still on pace for 62 wins. In the 2003-2004 season, their defense was the 3rd worst in the league! Next year, it was the 14th best, with the rest of the pack, and this season, Dallas is almost averaging 100 PPG while still limited opponents to 92 PPG (7th in the league)!

No doubt PJ has improved his team a helluva lot, just not enough to win the award.
