Having more weight classes means fighters have to cut less weight, making it safer for them to compete. It also means more title fights. A couple of years ago Mark "The Machine" Hominick, after an exciting submission victory over Yves Edwards, implored the UFC to add a featherweight (135-lbs to 145-lbs) division, but it fell on deaf ears.

Right now there are a lot of talented featherweight fighters out there that are relegated to lesser promotions because the UFC isn't interested in anybody under 155-lbs. You have guys like Kid Yamamoto (17-1), Antonio Carvalho (10-3), Hiroyuki Takaya (9-4-1), the aformentioned Hominick (15-7), Akitoshi Tamura (11-5-2), Jeff Curran (29-9-1), and up-and-comers like Urijah Faber (20-1) and Takeshi Inoue (14-2). Not to mention veterans like Jens Pulver (22-8-1), Ivan Menjivar (20-7), and Caol Uno (24-10-4). The talent is out there.

Personally I think the lightweight division is the most exciting in the UFC right now, and featherweights are even faster. I understand that there isn't star power in the division, in terms of the American market, but you can say the same thing about the lightweights before BJ Penn came back. You can create stars in the division.

meh tough call IMO. WEC has the featherweights as a unique draw compaired to the UFC for the Zuffa owned company and how small do you want to go is the question.
I do agree LW is an exciting division but I think everything but the LHW division is exciting for the most part.
