Considering that he didn't "discover" anything, and introduced slavery, disease and wasn't exactly a super nice guy.

Besides the fact that it's kind of hard to 'discover' a land that already had people on it, he wasn't even the one who first discovered the continent.

If any of you know the oatmeal site, yes it has comics, but it's sourced.

Mostly from this book here and this book here.

Although maybe it's a liberal agenda to make white people feel bad about being white? ;)

I can totally understand why some are pissed we celebrate Columbus Day, and I don't really care if it's celebrated, we must remember that anytime we look at historical figures through a modern lens they aren't going to come off well. For example most of our forefathers owned slaves. So yes, Columbus was a murderous fucker, but he never would have gotten the job and an explorer if he wasn't.

I've heard this brought up before, but honestly, I don't remember ever celebrating Columbus Day. Ya, maybe I got a day off work, but I've never hung up C-Day decorations, gone to a C-Day parade or invited the whole family for a C-Day feast. It seems to have gone by the wayside, so I guess, sure, why not axe it in favor of Kardashian Day, or some other modern hero.

White people should celebrate the vikings instead, surprised the Scandinavians don't get pissed off about that Italian guy stealing their glory.

Columbus was definitely a villan, but it's OK to remind ourselves that there are villans.

Wow, you need to spruce up on your history. There were about 385,000 slave owners in the United States before they were emancipated. That number would not come close to "most".

Then if you check you would find that most people's forefathers immigrated to this country since the Civil war. I think very few of them ever owned a slave.

Never did understand why Columbus was in the history books, seems like the Vikings and Galician fisherman all beat him to North America.

This is why Columbus, Ohio, a pretty large city, has no major league team.

Forefathers is what I said, most of the forefathers, not most of the people. I was referencing those who were important in establishing our nation. http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/1269536/The-Founding-Fathers-and-Slavery

Before calling me out, try and actually read.

Yep, I read again, you said "forefathers". Perhaps you meant to say founding fathers, many of those were slave holders. However, my Forefathers held no Slaves, nor did they found this nation, how about yours?
