What do you guys think of signing Okur? From what I saw from him this year, he is a good passing big man with a nice outside game. The only thing that I would worry about him is his defense. Would he be able to hang in the West? I think him and Foyle would make a nice combo at the center position.

    Can you say, "Ol?!!!" ?

Actually we wouldn't need the red cape if we put Foyle in there at least for defensive stops.

I can not understand the above post... what in the world?

I've been trying to get Okur reactions in the Suns forum with no luck. Obviously we're competing:) What're your thoughts on him though. I've only seen two regular season games where I thought he looked solid but then he was pretty crappy looking in the few playoff minutes he had. I think he was just sore from all the splinters. [IMG]

We want him to complement Amare's post presence with his perimeter play (or so I keep hearing, and it does make sense). You guys expect similar?

I believe he and Foyle could share minutes and even play at the same time. They are both good shot blockers and Okur would give you the offense. He's only been in the league for 3 years so he has some time to mature.

Well, I can tell you a bit more about Okur. He is a pretty good big man to have, but he sometimes doesn't play the right way. [IMG] He is not a very good defender except for the occasional blocked shot and often settles for jump shots instead of taking the ball inside. He has post moves and can use his height, but he just settles for jump shots instead.

Also, he would be raw after reading the pine the whole playoffs. You guys could take him, he would be a pretty good addition. The guys here in Detroit would only be dissapointed but not devasted, not because he is a bad player and we don't care about him leaving but because we already have logjams at the position that he plays. (If we keep Rasheed)

Okur actually reminds me a lot of Murphy, or maybe even someone like Rasho Nesterovic. He's got good range (past the three-point line), a good nose for rebounds, and although not the most spectactular athlete, is a smart kid who can play average defense. He's big and tough enough to man the position, but in my opinion, would benefit from a bit more freedom on offense as a forward. I know Detroit is planning to use their mid-level exception on him, though, and we can't really offer him much more than that. I'd definitely target him as one of the better players we could get for that money, though.

Thanks, Pyro. BTW, the quote, "Play the right way" by coach Larry Brown. I love that.

Yeah, Wtwalker probably mentioned in some earlier posts that he and Murph have similar games, but would be worth taking. I'm not sure what the source is, but Cliff Robinson was said to speak highly of Okur. Cliff used to be a former piston. I wonder if Cliff feels resentful about the whole getting traded thing because he could have gotten a ring.

I think Custodians posts of "ole" meant that he plays matador defense, and his man blows right by him like a bull chasing after the red cape.

i think warriors need more of a ben wallace type in the middle, rather than a scorer.. They already have a group of guys who can score - they need someone to do the dirty work. I think the team will take a hit next season because Dampier was that guy last season who blocked shots, and grabbed tons of rebounds and scored a lot of garbage points.

i say, go after mark blount.. he had some ridiculous games last season with 20+ rebounds. And I'm sure he won't command as much $$$ as dampier.

I would not sign Okur for more than the mid level exception.

    Custodian,
After they won the championship, Larry Brown said he was sorry Cliff, Sura, and Barry weren't there to share it, I thought that was totally classy.

Yeah sorry for not addressing that earlier, Rudeezy. I guess I missed your question. Luckily Warriorfan addressed it quickly.

Okur might not be a bad idea at this stage when we might lose Damp for sure unless we match any offer. I think we can still match at least.

I think the Pistons are offerring him a 6 year/45 mil contract which isn't bad.

The contract sounds to be about $7.5 mil a year (probably fitting about a 5.5 mil exception with max 12.5% raises per year) which is about his value and his potential. Detroit's offer is pretty smart since other teams can't quite match the raises, they'd have to dip into their cap this year to sign him for more, yet it's not too high of an offer.

Okur has verbally commited to Utah for a reportably 6 year/48 mil contract.
