The Steelers added a new player to their receiving corps today when they signed free agent veteran Quincy Morgan to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not released. To make room for Morgan on their roster, Pittsburgh released four-year veteran receiver Lee Mays.Morgan (6-1, 215), a five-year veteran from Kansas State, was originally selected in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He played with the Browns for more than three seasons before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 19, 2004, in exchange for wide receiver Antonio Bryant. In four seasons, Morgan has caught 155 passes for 2,316 yards (14.9 avg.) and 15 touchdowns. He has also returned 11 kickoffs for 267 yards (24.3 avg.). Morgan enjoyed his finest season in 2002 when he set career highs with 56 receptions, 964 receiving yards (17.2 avg.) and seven touchdowns.Mays, who was originally selected by the Steelers in the sixth round (202nd overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft, had caught 11 passes for 154 yards (14.0 avg.) and returned 36 kickoffs for 750 yards (20.8 avg.) in his three seasons with the team. He missed part of the 2005 preseason with an injured hamstring.</div>Depth Chart (IMO):1. Hines Ward2. Quincy Morgan3. Antwaan Randle El 4. Cedrick Wilson5. Nate WashingtonI think this is a good move. If they want to step up in the passing game, they needed a new receiver. Quincy Morgan was struggling with the Cowboys. However, before he got traded he put up seasons like 56 recepts, 950 yards, and 7 touchdowns...which is good. I think he'll be able to get back to, or close to back to that point. Pretty good move for the Steelers, more help for Ben.
This is great for Big Ben. With this WR corps there is NO reason for Ben to struggle. IMO this is a lesser talented replacement for Burress. Morgan will provide Height and big play oppurtunities. I don't know if he's a good blocker though, so that may move him farther down the Depth chart.
I would also put Randal El ahead of Morgan, that drops him down to #3 IMO.Should be nice for Big Ben, another solid reciever out there to throw too, he should have another great season with that core.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ArizonaSportsFan22 @ Sep 6 2005, 07:07 PM)</div><div class='quotemain'>Morgan sucks! Randle EL should definetly be the #2 reciever.</div>took the words out of my mouthEl brings so much more to the table, speed, jumping and catching.not to mention, newcomers should NEVER come in and take someones spot whos been with the team since they were drafted unless they prove themselves better when they take snaps in games and show they are worthynow i wouldnt go as far to say that morgan SUCKKSSS... but likeits the principal of the thing, the new guy doenst take the guys job whos been with the team for a while--it shouldnt happen unless ur TO, Harrison, Moss, or like CJwhatever, bad move.
When he played for the Browns he didn't SUCK. Almost 1000 yards and 7 touchdowns, while playing for a bad team is good. And the only reason I had Morgan ahead of the depth chart is because I think he'll win the spot later on. As far as I seen, in a high role, Randle El has been dropping balls. But if he shapes up, I'd love for El to play SE. I thought he was going to improve, but dropping balls is not something I want my 2nd option to do...THIS IS NOT SEATTLE.
I donno, its hard to judge right now...in preseason games, El knew he wasnt gonna lose his job cuz there was no one else really competing for the spotOnce the season starts, and every second of the game counts towards the team's goal to win, then we will see randle el catching all the passes. trust me.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Chiefsfan31 @ Sep 7 2005, 04:01 PM)</div><div class='quotemain'>Why do you think the 'boys let go of him anyways? HE SUCKS!</div> ITS SO TRUE hes gonna bring the steelers nowhere fast
They let him go because they grabbed Price, and he wasn't comfortable in the environment. He said negative things about his role with the cowboys. He has been looking for teams. And once again, 1000 yards and 7 touchdowns does not suck. And El did have competition. He was in a battle with Cedric Wilson.
