When coming back from injury, Oden and others talk about being limited to 1-on-1 or 3-on-3. I guess I've never really understood this. I find 1-on-1 to be much harder on my body than 5-on-5 - there's a lot of knee strain as I try to go around my defender. Seriously, wouldn't it be easier to just jog up and down the court, set some picks, and grab some rebounds? I don't get it? And, if Joel and Oden are really playing 1-on-1, who's winning and why?
5-5 is semi game speed. When they do this in practice they go full out. 1-1 generally means working on moves, and doing drills
I had the same thought, LOL. Imagining him "playing" one-on-one what I see is a lot of twisting pressure on the knee. Maybe that's ok and it's the pounding of running full court they want to avoid?
I think it's a combination of game speed and relative ease of monitoring someone with fewer players on the court.
I saw Greg and Joel doing some 1 on 1 work around the 3rd or 4th day of training camp. They were working on basic stuff in the post with a coach defending them. The coach would have a pad like what you guys have seen Bayno use, just kinda' bumping and guarding them. Not typical "1on1" stuff you think of when 2 guys are bangin' and goin' at it. Just light stuff with a coach.
