<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">You have to figure with Andre Iguodala, Allen Iverson and Samuel Dalembert in the starting lineup, this team will get its fair share of steals, and so Cheeks' expectations are warranted. Yet, based on the limited information that Coach Cheeks has been giving the press, I'm not getting a solid feeling. I'm glad Coach Cheeks wants to apply pressure up the floor, and gamble in the passing lanes, but telling us that this team is going to force a lot of turnovers isn't exactly what I want to hear. This team was already good at forcing turnovers, so Cheeks really isn't saying anything there. In fact ex-Coach O'Brien's defensive system was predicated on getting deflections and getting steals and turnovers. The concept behind always fronting the post was to force the opposition to make a lot of passes. O'Brien's system demanded that you not play the passing lane so much as contest passes as if they were shots. In O'Brien's system, the more passes made, the more opportunity for deflections, steals, and turnovers. That aspect of O'Brien's defense worked like a charm. The downside of O'Brien's system was that it allowed a lot of assists, and a lot of offensive rebounds. What I want to hear Coach Cheeks say is he wants a team defense that doesn't allow open shots and controls the defensive backboard. That was something Coach O'Brien was unable to say. </div> link: http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_14318.shtml it's an old article, but a good read anyways.
