"I thought it would be a lot better than this," Sixers guard Allen Iverson said the other day.

The Sixers were beaten by Detroit in the playoffs last year, and former coach Jim O'Brien was fired after the season.

But the Sixers haven't gotten better.

The thinking was having Webber and Iverson together for an entire season, plus with players such as Andre Iguodala, Kyle Korver and Samuel Dalembert a year older and wiser, that this group could be pretty good. Plus, favorite son Maurice Cheeks was coaching the team. He was the guy team president Billy King wanted at the helm all along, once Larry Brown left.

Why did this thing not come together?

That they are a bad defensive team certainly has something to do with it, but they weren't a very good defensive team last season. Conversely, they're a better offensive team than they were last season.

In summary: Iverson's had another great year; Webber's had a pretty good year and has given the team about what you would expect from a 33-year-old with a bad wheel; Korver's play has been inconsistent (his shooting has been extremely streaky); Iguodala's gotten somewhat better, although he still doesn't have a midrange jumper, but he still isn't aggressive enough offensively and Samuel Dalembert, who has been coming off the bench behind Steven Hunter, has regressed.

One other key area has been bench play. The Sixers haven't had much of that to speak of. Lee Nailon didn't pan out.

Willie Green could've given them a nice lift off the bench, but he hurt his knee in the offseason, required surgery and missed most of the season. He signed with the team on Thursday, but it's unlikely he'll make that much of a difference at this late date.

Honestly, Cheeks has had some very questionable coaching moves as well and they've lost quite a few very winnable games.

pretty much sums up all our problems. with the addition of webber to this team, you would think they would end up with a better record than last season, but IMO that wont happen since for it to happen, we can only lose 3 games. all in all, disappointing season and im looking forward to next year
