<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jim O'Brien, the 76ers' new coach, has made it clear that Boston free-agent center Mark Blount offers the knowledge and skill necessary for his defensive schemes. During the weekend, the Sixers clarified the 7-foot Blount's status as a top priority by making an offer to agent Mark Bartelstein. Billy King, the Sixers' president/general manager, confirmed the offer but would not provide any specifics. King said if Blount were to accept, he would be viewed as "a piece of the puzzle." Asked whether he felt his conversation with Bartelstein was productive, King said, "From my end, it was. But it takes two." At the same time, King said he also had spoken with Joel Bell, the agent for Milwaukee free agent and former Sixer Brian Skinner during the weekend. King said it was unlikely the Sixers would have room for both Blount and Skinner.</div> <div align="center">Link</div> So they officially offered him a contract. It still unknown on how much they offer him, but I'm guessing O'Brien sweet-talked him to bring Blount demand of 5 Million down to a minimum. The Sixers are over the salary cap, so it more than likely they’re offered him 6 year $35 Million dollar contract (I hope they didn't. For our sake I hope it's at least a 5-year $2 Million dollar contract). I hoping the financial issues didn't affect his decision too much. Hopefully he will sign with us.
Yeah hopefully, but this means no Sheed, but we can live with Blount he is a solid player and he can give us size, boards, and defense.
Remember when I told you guys that I'd pop in when I saw something predictable from OB..... Blount won't take anything under 3 years at MLE #'s, IMO. Hope you don't overpay for him. Best of luck. I still think it's funny that Blount attributes OB to his successful year, when he didn't start to put up numbers until after OB had departed.
I as well hope that we don't overpay him and have to keep him for a while, or just buy out his contract. If we do the thing that we did with Coleman, than Billy will be solidified as the dumbest GM this league has seen. We need to give the guy a one year contract, maybe two. Just because he showed promise last year in playing the best ball of his career doesn't mean anything.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">We need to give the guy a one year contract, maybe two.</div> If that ends up being Philly's stance, then you'll see Blount in Miami next season. I can't imagine his agent letting him sign for less than 3 years at MLE numbers. WIth Foyle and Okurs contracts hot off the presses, Blount's in the best spot he'll probably ever be in for a big contract.
Agreed, but I don't want to risk another Coleman type incident. The franchise is already in trouble financially, so if he were to be signed for a long-term contract, than that would be terrible IMO.
I dont think they should sign him i feel he won't bring much to the team and will get injured and jus take up cap space. Thats just my opinion tho
^^Yeah that is one thing that scares me with Billy, if he's smart, he will do the right thing. Ace, I wouldn't count him out already, Blount is a young, decent player who has been improving considerably. He just needs more time, and I strongly believe he can be a good quality player in the NBA.
Jersey Boi I guess ur right Now that I think about it He has improved alot this past year but still he could be our backup center for Sammy I only wish DC and Big **** Dog could get traded. Who would be dumb enough to trade for them tho?
About trading Coleman and Big Dog, well Coleman isn't going to be a Sixer anyways, so who knows, he needs to retire to be honest. As for Big Dog..you kinda got me there... Off-topic: Ace-, I see that you live in south jersey, what city?
