Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers look to continue their best start in six seasons when they visit the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night. Iverson has averaged 34.0 points in leading Philadelphia to its first 3-0 start since it went a franchise-best 10-0 in 2000-01 - a season that ended with the Sixers in the NBA Finals. The quick start is a bit of a surprise, as some observers didn't pick the 76ers to be a playoff contender before the season. We played three games,'' Philadelphia coach Maurice Cheeks said. We won three games so you know that has to be exciting for us. Our whole focus is to continue trying to get better. Iverson has shown little sign of slowing down in his 11th season with sensational play in the early going. In addition to his scoring, he's increased his assist total in every game, handing out 13 in a 107-98 victory over Miami on Sunday. The star guard cited several reasons for the 76ers' strong start. "Believing in each other,'' Iverson said. "Being able to get the ball in guys' hands and making things happen and playing defense. We have been making stops when we need stops the most, especially down the stretch of games. We have been scoring the basketball when we need to.'' Another factor has been the strong play of reserve forward Kyle Korver, who's averaging 25.0 points on 68 percent shooting in the last two games for the 76ers, the only unbeaten team in the Eastern Conference. "I've been getting open,'' Korver said. A lot of that is the guys are setting great screens and Allen is looking for me. I've been able to get a good rhythm, hit my first couple shots the last couple games and that (has built) my confidence.'' The Sixers have been winning despite getting a minimal contribution from power forward Chris Webber, who's averaging 9.7 points on 34 percent shooting. Webber has faced tough matchups in each of the last two games in Orlando's Dwight Howard and Miami's Udonis Haslem, and he'll face another difficult task in defending Indiana's Jermaine O'Neal. The Pacers star is off to a solid start, averaging 20.7 points on 52 percent shooting through three games. The Pacers (2-1), searching for their first home victory, have not played since a 109-95 victory at New York on Saturday. O'Neal had only 17 points, but Al Harrington broke out of an early slump with 32 points on 14-of-24 shooting.Harrington made four of 19 shots in his first two games. "Finally Harrington said. Teammates were finding me wide open. I missed a lot of easy shots, but fortunately enough I was able to make a lot of them, too.'' Indiana coach Rick Carlisle is still trying to determine his best lineup as his club begins a stretch of four games in five days. He threatened lineup changes before the game against the Knicks before opting to stay with O'Neal, Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Jamaal Tinsley and Danny Granger. Granger and Tinsley could eventually be replaced. Granger has made just eight of 23 shots (35 percent) and Tinsley has been subpar on defense. We're struggling right now,'' Tinsley said. Right now we're just focusing on our team and trying to win ballgames.'' The Sixers have lost two straight against the Pacers after winning the previous five matchups.

Damn, we're being completely killed. At the end of the third, its 80-55 Pacers dominating. They're absolutely owning us on the boards and assists. Webber can't make a shot at all right now, but on top of that, has only three rebounds right now. For whatever reason, Korver hasn't shot much or even been played that much (17 minutes). Obviously, Iverson's carrying all of the offense right now, aside from Iguodala who's playing another efficient game but not enough shots (GET HIM THE BALL!), no one else is really contributing on the offensive end. Seriously, Iguodala's 4-5 from the field, yet the guys don't keep giving him the ball.

    Go for it.

Yep, the 3-0 definitely was a fluke due to incredible playing by the players, and not actually as a team. Its pretty blatant if you observe this game, that much of the 3-0 should be accredited to Korver's hot shooting, Iguodala's breakout offense, and Dalembert being a particular beast on the boards. However, if all those are gone, I was hoping we would be able to go with defense to win games, since thats what all great teams should be able to do (aside from Phoenix). Pretty disappointed, but I'm pretty sure they'll get it going sooner or later.

what a pathetic showing by the sixers. i expected them to really come out and domminate. Dalembert needs to realize that he is a main component for this team to win and actually play like it.

    Recap

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jermaine O'Neal had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and the Indiana Pacers handed the Philadelphia 76ers their first loss of the season with a 97-86 victory Tuesday night.

Reserve Rawle Marshall scored 16 points, while Al Harrington and Danny Granger each had 14 for Indiana (3-1), which won its second consecutive game by double digits.

Allen Iverson finished with 20 points on 8-of-22 shooting from the field for the 76ers (3-1), who trailed by double figures the entire second half. Kyle Korver and Willie Green each scored 14.

Philadelphia had a three-point lead after the first quarter, but fell behind early in the second following a 10-2 run by the Pacers. Indiana extended its lead to 51-36 at the half by scoring 11 of the final 13 points of the quarter.

The Pacers started the second half by hitting three 3-pointers, two by Harrington, to push their lead to 60-39. The 76ers cut the deficit to 64-47 with 5:10 left in the third quarter, but O'Neal's layup halted Philadelphia's momentum.

The 76ers began the fourth quarter with five straight points, which included a powerful one-handed dunk by Steven Hunter over Pacers center Jeff Foster, but Foster came right back and stopped the run with a basket of his own.

    Notes

Iverson's streak of six straight games with 30 or more points dating to last season came to an end. ... All three of Indiana's wins have come against Eastern Conference teams. Its only loss came against New Orleans. ... Pacers coach Rick Carlisle was whistled for his first technical foul this season after arguing a no-call early in the third quarter. ... Philadelphia forward Alan Henderson, a former Indiana University star, received a nice ovation from the crowd at Conseco Fieldhouse when he entered the game late in the second quarter.
