QUOTE

"And let me say something else on the record since you [reporters] are here: I was way too harsh in my comments toward Tyrus," Skiles said. "And I apologized to him personally. I felt really bad about that. I didn't mean for that to come out the way it did. I wasn't misquoted or anything. But I felt bad about it."

Wednesday, Skiles appeared to show some uncharacteristic emotion during his apology.

"It was a mistake on my part," Skiles said. "It's hard when you say something and you're quoted accurately to back up and say, 'I didn't mean it that way.' But that is honestly the case. I had a little something else going on, got distracted and I was way too harsh."

Like most players, Thomas wasn't made available for comment Wednesday. Asked if he could envision Thomas playing like Dwight Howard or Amare Stoudemire some day, Skiles hesitated.

"I think you're making a pretty big leap," he said. "Those guys burst right on the scene as double-digit scorers. Tyrus is still finding his game. That's why I was upset with myself about the comments.

"Size-wise, he's in between [small and power forward]. Unfortunately right now, we've got him out there down low, doing battle with huge people. So he's learning what he can and can't get away with down there. We're encouraging him offensively to have freedom."

If they honestly think that Tyrus is a small forward, why did they draft him? I know Skiles wanted Aldridge, who is definitely a big, but Paxson ignored his coach, and went with Thomas. Why draft him if he's a small forward? Unfortunately he's down low? Thats ridiculous

Not sure where you get that Skiles wanted Aldridge, though in hindsight it would have been much better for the Bulls if they didn't trade him for Thomas. The Bulls were in need of big men and Thomas was a big man in college. Not sure what he is in the pros - something like a 4/3.

I remember a radio report on the day of the draft with some guy from CNN/SI where he said point-blank "Skiles wants LaMarcus Aldridge but it sounds like the Bulls are going to go with Tyrus Thomas".

    To me, Tyrus has a 4's game and a 3's body. I guess it's a 4's game mostly because he can't shoot.

Aldridge was far and away the best possible pick for the Bulls, and as soon as Andy Katz announced the trade, I was just like "what?" Terrible mistake by the Bulls.

Hey, that Curry deal is the one that keeps on giving. We got... Tim Thomas, Tyrus Thomas, the right to sawp picks to pick Noah, and now it's looking like another lotto pick.
