<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">La Salle forward Steve Smith always has been the consummate team player. Despite being the co-MVP of the Atlantic 10 conference and a first-team All-Big Five selection last season, Smith would much rather talk about team rather than any individual accolades. His trip to Chicago for the NBA predraft camp, where showcasing individual talents is the absolute norm, still didn't change his disposition. "I was fortunate in that I got put with a great team, with a bunch of great forwards and some really good point guards," Smith said yesterday from Chicago. "It was a great experience for me." And few at the camp did as much to improve their stock as the 6-8 Smith. In three games he scored 48 points, including a team-high 23 in his club's second game. "I think he had an extremely strong camp, especially from a physical point of view," said La Salle coach John Giannini, who stopped by Chicago for the camp during his endless offseason recruiting quest. "He's not undersized, he's a perfect physical speciman. He was as long and as athletic as any other three-man [small forward] there. He played very well. Well enough to get drafted this year and also well enough that, if he decides to play another year at La Salle, he could be a first-round pick next year."</div> Source
