Smush Prepared to Battle

``My decision to come here was that there was an opening [at] point guard, there was a great organization to be a part of, and they won the championship two years ago.''

Parker -- who also considered the Clippers and Celtics -- was a starter for nearly two seasons with the Lakers before being supplanted by rookie Jordan Farmar for the final two games of last season.

Parker, 26, said he had a brief discussion with Pat Riley, who is on vacation and has not commented on Parker's role or whether he will return as coach.

''They like the pick-and-roll offense,'' Parker said. ``We didn't play much pick-and-roll in L.A., but I'm a playmaker. I'm going to have fun in this offense.''</div>
