I have an HP tx2000, a tablet laptop.

It's cool that you can swivel the screen to turn it into a tablet.

It sucks because it runs Vista.

Mac is a good choice, though I've never really used one. I do know it has FreeBSD at it's heart, which is fine quality.

My big gripes with laptops is the screen size. Most are 1200x800, which is not very tall for looking at WWW pages (and I have to consider that in all my design work!).

If I were to get another laptop, it'd be Mac or some dual core AMD with 4G and I'd put Ubuntu on it.

What exactly are you using it for? If you don't need it to do anything special, just get the cheapest one you can. I bought mine for like $400 2 years ago and it still runs like it did the day I bought it.

Depends on what you want to use it for.

If you just want something to have iTunes and something you can write your papers on (like me), then any laptop should do it.

I have a Dell Inspiron FWIW.

Yeah I need one for college too. I've been leaning toward converting to Mac but I've never used one before. All I need it for is typing, music, movies, internet. Not playing any games on it or anything.

Any other people convert over to Mac and like it?

I heard it wasn't worth the price, but it is nice if you have extra cash at hand.

This kid I know that likes making videos/presentations swears by it though. He's a video editor/etc.

If I had any money, I'd buy this.

Oddly, it's available through this discount supermarket, but considering everything I've read about the manufacturer and the features it seems to be quite a bargain.

Yea. I have a friend who went to my high school and is going to Rutgers as well and he uses a Mac for all that editing stuff. So if you're going to be doing any video type editing for some classes, get a Mac.

I personally have had a Dell Inspiron E1505 for about a year and a half now without any complaints. I don't think they make this specific version anymore, but they still make Inspirons. The only issue I've ever had with it was that the battery died after about 7 months; that was a little disappointing. If I had to given an opinion, I would say stay away from Dell. There are much better ones out there.

Does it have a lot of space? I'm going out to get one for school too. Using it for itunes, internet, papers, and I like to download games for my video game emulators.

HP's and Sony's have always been reliable for me and my friends. Dells and Gateways suck, though.

Macs are very nice, but you need a mouse because it sucks not having the right click.

I just looked at the homepage. Those look smexy but the games I play, well,, I dont think they require so much firepower(I mostly play gameboy and snes games on my comp...shhhh lol)

My only complaint with alienwares are the price.

The cheapest one I saw on the homepage was almost $1,400. I'm trying to least keep my limit up to $1,000 and lower..

Look at the specs on those laptops [IMG]

    1.5 Terrabyte of disk...

Those things are desktop class machines in a laptop form.

The big ones aren't that portable. They weigh a ton.

My MacBook is the best computer I have ever got. I had it for about 1 and half years. If your buying one,
don't buy it through Apple. Buy it at Best Buy or some other store. Apple doesn't cover everything.
BTW to right on the Mac, tap the pad with two fingers at the same time. No mouse need.
